The team at Money Saving Experts have flagged a way to get a free £100 voucher while bagging a bargain on a new phone handset

Money Saving Experts have flagged a much cheaper way to upgrade your phone, thanks to one retailer’s seemingly rare deal. As the Easter sales get underway anyone looking for a shiny new handset may want to eye up Google’s Pixel 8, as you’ll get a free £100.

It’s all thanks to retailer Mobiles.co.uk who’s adding a £100 Currys voucher for anyone who buys the Google phone and another perk means you’ll pay one of the cheapest prices for the contract. Running through iD Mobile the plan costs £19.99 a month, with an upfront fee of £49 it also includes a huge chunk of data – 500GB a month.

It’s rare to find a new phone and data for that price nowadays, so it’s not surprising the team of consumer experts at MSE have picked it up. Plus it works out to be one of the cheapest on the market.

As the MSE consumer experts pointed out, Google sells the 128GB Pixel 8 phone for £25 a month (or £599 outright in its current sale), but the iD Mobile plan listed to Mobiles.co.uk costs a much cheaper £19.99 a month. It’s a small saving of £5 a month but this quickly adds up to a huge £120 difference.

The Google Pixel 8 is also available to buy at Amazon, Google, and rival providers like EE although while some may be offering small price drops on the outright price none will give you the £100 Currys voucher. It’s always recommended to browse more than one deal at a time so to make sure you are getting the best price, we’ve picked this £145 Amazon price drop for you.

Now £554, down from an original £699, Amazon is selling unlocked models of the Google phone, so it can work on any provider SIM network you pick. The £19.99 a month iD Mobile contract still works out cheaper even with its £49 upfront fee as you’ll get a huge chunk of data included that’s not for grabs on Amazon’s deal.

Still, the Amazon deal has the perk of flexibility as you won’t be tied into any contract, and can switch or upgrade anytime you like. Money aside, what makes the Pixel 8 worth buying against rivals like Samsung’s newest S24 range or the Apple iPhone 15?

To start, all devices are a similar age, launching between August 2023 and February 2024 so no matter the one you pick you’re bound to get flashy up-to-date features. Having covered the launch of Google’s flagship pixel devices there is one upgrade that may make users feel as though they are truly getting their money’s worth.

And that’s all in its upgrades and AI features, as we highlighted during the Mirror Tech event coverage: “Google has announced the devices will be supported for seven years, meaning users will get software updates right up until 2030.

“The biggest new spec comes with the Tensor G3 and its AI assistant – and as shown on screen it’ll help users block scam callers thanks to its call assist. Personally, I think this will be a huge win for users and something Apple and Samsung may need to take a look at themselves, something which is a bit more glitch on Apple’s iOS 17.”
