Marks and Spencer’s new Linen Rich Ruched Midaxi Bodycon Dress is part of the retailer’s SS24 collection and is already getting rave reviews from shoppers

Whoever is doing the buying at Marks and Spencer needs the fashion equivalent of a Paul Hollywood handshake, because the retailer really is upping the ante when it comes to high-street style this summer. First it was the white pure cotton midi skirt, then the revival of the striped knitted maxi dress in two new shades – and now, there’s a new dress that fashion fans are going to be scrambling for.

The popular store has launched a stunning dress as part of its summer collection, and I’m surprised it is still available after M&S shared a snap of it to Instagram over the Bank Holiday weekend. The Linen Rich Ruched Midaxi Bodycon Dress costs less than £40, and is a ‘sophisticated and elegant’ addition to your SS24 wardrobe.

Coming in at £39..50, the dress is crafted from a linen-rich fabric that makes it a great choice for warm summer days. While designed in a bodycon silhouette, it doesn’t appear clingy, but still shows off your shape, with flattering ruched detail across the midsection that disguises the tummy area.

The sleeveless design has a neat round neckline which shoppers say ‘elevates’ the outfit and makes it look more expensive, with a zip fastening at the back. While still a relatively new piece on the website, it’s already earned itself a number of five-star reviews from shoppers, who say it’s ‘comfortable and cool’.

One said: “I love the neck on this dress which really elevates the design. Will be great with chunky sandals and some bold accessories.” While another added: “Sophisticated and elegant. Comfortable and cool for hot weather.”

“Love this dress. Great design which is flattering on my hips,” wrote a third. “It’s got a lot of linen and it’s a great price too. Well done M&S.”

While a fourth commented: “This is an elegant, flattering, black linen dress that hangs beautifully and can be dressed up or down. I am tall, (1m79) so ordered the long length which comes just below the calf. perfect. Highly recommended.”

As the above review mentioned, the dress comes in sizes 6-20 in petite and long styles, while the ‘regular’ goes up to a 24, ensuring you can find your perfect fit. However some shoppers did have some issues with the sizing, and had to opt down a size. One wrote: “Really pleased with dress it’s very flattering and a great length. I originally bought a size 10 but it didn’t look right so ordered a size 8 perfect.”

Not only does it come in a range of sizes and lengths, the dress also comes in two easy-to-wear shades, too, available in black and neutral. Both allow you to personalise your look according to your mood and occasion, whether you opt for sandals and a straw bag, or glam up with heels and a clutch bag.

Elsewhere, similar styles on the high street include this gathered midi dress from H&M, which costs less than £20. Also coming in black and neutral variations, the calf-length dress is made from stretch jersey featuring an asymmetric neckline and wide shoulder straps, one of which is twisted. It’s definitely more figure-hugging than the M&S version, with similar gathers at the sides for a flattering, gently draped silhouette.

For something a little different, Mango’s drop-waist dress is another affordable choice at £29.99, but if you want to snap up the M&S Linen Rich Ruched Midaxi Bodycon Dress, you can buy it here for under £40.
