A mum has gone to extreme measures in order for her kids to behave – and it’s very timely with Halloween just around the corner. Any parent knows how frustrating it can be when their child is playing up, but many people wouldn’t think ‘terrifying’ them is the answer.

Mum-of-10 Vanessa shared her parenting hack online, but many say she is terrorising her kids, and that they will need therapy after she uses a scary doll to make them behave.

She says it works a treat, and has been inspired from Elf on The Shelf to make into a scary Halloween twist, calling it “End of the bed Ned” instead.

Vanessa told her kids at the beginning of September that if they don’t behave, Ned would be coming to their bed. “He’s a possessed little doll that sits at the end of your bed and watches you while you’re asleep,” she said in a video on her TikTok page, and added “he only does it to bad kids”.

This means when they are naughty, she would then put Ned on their bed to scare them. “I went to the charity shop, found one of those little porcelain scary dolls, and I gave them a makeover,” she said and held up the creepy looking doll that she had added scary eyes, and blood splatters to.

“So tonight, there’s gonna be a knock on the door, and he’s gonna be sitting there. People say to me, oh, my God, you’re gonna terrorise your children, you’re gonna give them trauma,” she said but then jibed: “Mate, they chose this life! They knew the score, they knew they had to behave, but Ned don’t come to good kids’ houses.

“And he’s gonna watch whoever’s bad that day from the end of the bed while you’re asleep.” After being slammed for her parenting trick, Vanessa then shared a follow up video, and said it’s so her kids don’t grow up “with the personality of a wet dressing gown sleeve”.

“You know, like, what’s wrong with the world where you can’t use a bit of scare tactics?” she asked. “But yeah, I’m a loving and nurturing mother, believe it or not. I am, I swear! Maybe I do take things to the extreme. But hey, I’m not boring!”

It seems as if Ned works as she said her the kids went to bed “really nicely tonight” and added: “Now Ned’s gone because they had such a positive day – Ned’s gone to someone else’s house. They went to bed without any questions.

“They just went in. It was all good. So yeah, target achieved with Ned!” However not everyone is on board, with one TikToker telling her “social services need to get involved” and another who said: “As an adult who is awful with horrors I don’t know if this is hilarious or the worst thing ever. I can’t tell if it’s a joke.” A third said: “Not sure if this is absolute genius or therapy sessions later down the line.”
