Cleaning the oven is a task that many of us dread, but one woman has shared a genius cleaning hack that will melt the grime away in just minutes – and it’s very budget-friendly
Most households will use their ovens on a daily basis, but it’s likely not part of your regular cleaning schedule.
Ovens can often be overlooked, and the accumulation of grease and grime can result in a hefty cleaning job. One aspect that’s even more irritating and tricky than cleaning the oven itself is dealing with the racks inside it and the cooker hood filter above it.
Grime can really cling to these parts, and their awkward shape makes them nearly impossible to fit into the sink for a good scrub. However, one savvy cleaner has shared a brilliant trick that promises to dissolve the dirt in just minutes – and it won’t break the bank.
Posting in the Mums Who Clean Facebook group, the woman revealed: “I had a spare 10 minutes, and knew my range hood filter, and barbecue trivet needed cleaning.” The secret to making tasks like cleaning the cooker hood filter, racks and pans a “joy”, she says, is cornflour.
She elaborated: “I can honestly say it’s a pleasure to clean them when it’s so easy. I use the same process for my oven racks, roast tray, greasy fry pans etc.” She confessed that she usually “hates” waiting for pricey oven cleaners to take effect, preferring to “clean it now” so it’s “done with”.
The woman also added: “I just wanted to share how easy it is to clean some of the grime and oil film off of your frying pans. Tonight I just used the cornflour. Make sure the water is more on the hot side.”
This mum’s hack for blitzing grease and grime is as easy as pie, involving cornflour mixed in a sink of hot water. She typically starts with 1/2 cup and adds more if necessary. Cornflour, a common thickening agent in cooking, might already be in your kitchen cupboard. The economical trick can be tested with a small £1 purchase from Asda.
Astounded by the stunning results, one user exclaimed: “WHAT IS THIS SORCERY!!! I am today years old when I learnt this method! Thanks for sharing!” Another was surprised, commenting: “Never thought about using cornflour for that. Use it for refreshing carpets and used to use to refresh daughters teddy’s when she was little.”
A fourth added: “Thank you for sharing that’s amazing! ” However, caution is advised before using this method on cooker hood filters, especially for materials other than stainless steel, to avoid damage.
