A woman who grew up being bullied for her nose finally plucked up the courage to have a nose job – and it also gave her a new lease of life, leading her to file for divorce
A woman who was taunted for her ‘toucan’ nose has said having corrective surgery changed her whole life – and made her realise she no longer wanted to be married to her husband. Devyn Aiken forked out £8,500 for a new nose and said it finally gave her the “clarity” to file for divorce.
The 30-year-old had tied the knot when she was 23, but felt like she was ‘stuck’ in an unhappy union – so when she put herself first and got her nose job, it made her realise she needed to officially end her marriage. Now, she claims she’s happier than ever and doesn’t want to “settle” again.

Devyn, who works at a drug addiction company, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US, said: “I was re-born in a way [after the nose job]. I thought, ‘I’m choosing myself’. I feel so happy. You can start over whenever. I know what I want now. I don’t have to settle. Life doesn’t end when you go through divorce.”
She admitted that she previously felt like she needed to stay in her marriage to “prove” something to society. “I stayed in a stagnant, unhappy marriage,” she said. “It was wrong just to stay together because of all the time we’d had. The last few years we grew apart and everything didn’t align anymore.”
Devyn and her husband separated two years ago, and she said this gave her the push to get her nose done. It had always been her “biggest insecurity” but she had never found the right doctor to make her “pull the trigger” on surgery.
She struggled with cruel school bullies growing up too, and said: “Middle school was rough with bullying. I was called a witch, toucan, Pinocchio. It’s something I couldn’t control.”
But she came across Dr Ginsburg on social media and booked in her consultation. She underwent the five-and-a-half hour surgery in November 2024 – using her own savings to pay for it – and spent three to four weeks recovering, but the swelling can take a year to go down fully.

Devyn said: “Having so much down time with my nose job it gave me the time and clarity to think about divorce. It made me think, ‘I can do this – I’m strong enough’.” So, she filed for a divorce in December 2024 and now feels a “sense of happiness” as a “strong independent woman”.
She has been sharing her “glow up” on @doseofdevy and has been flooded with comments – including messages from women she has helped inspire. She said: “Someone commented ‘I’m not married but I need a divorce so I can have this glow up’. It’s an internal glow – I radiate that externally. People have said I look like Bella Hadid, Celine Dion – all sorts.”
Devyn now feels “optimistic” for the future, ready to enjoy life, go travelling, and do some dating. “I’m embracing and welcoming the change.”
