Neal Maupay’s incredible response to Paul Scholes was in reference a bizarre video that went viral in 2021 showing the Manchester United legend chewing his daughter Alicia’s toenails

Neal Maupay has delivered an outrageous response to Paul Scholes after claiming the former Brighton star “takes the p***”.

The outspoken forward, who now plays for Ligue 1 Marseille on loan from Everton, is a well-known wind-up merchant after infamously having a social media spat with James Maddison. He caused the row after copying his trademark darts celebration last year.

Scholes was discussing the incident during the Overlap Fan Debate and dismissed the 28-year-old, saying: “He just takes the p****”.

Maupay hit back: “Surprised Paul Scholes can fit my name in his mouth alongside his daughter’s toes,” alongside an emoji of a foot.

He was referencing a bizarre video that went viral in 2021 showing Scholes chewing his daughter Alicia’s toenails.

Fans on social media were left in stitches by the stunning reply, as one wrote: “I despise you as a player/person, but this comment is hilarious banter. Fair play.” Another called it “a violation” as one added: “Boy went to France and chose violence. Respect.”

“Maupay is the gift that keeps on giving,” a further tweet read, as another said: “Maupay has genuinely ruined Scholes here, genuinely laughed out loud.”

Scholes’ infamous toenail-chewing clip came during the same time when Manchester United were thumped 5-0 at Old Trafford as he admitted: “I’ve had better weekends.”

It came on the same day Lisandro Martinez hit back at Scholes after criticising the defender, telling the Manchester United legend he “wouldn’t survive in Argentina”.

Maupay has become a notorious troll with a number of incidents that has seen him wind up an opponent during his time with both Brentford and Everton.

He was once booked without even being on the pitch in 2023 after incredibly kicking the ball away from Cole Palmer as he prepared to take a free kick while he was warming up as a substitute.

Maupay also irked Everton fans as he celebrated his loan move from Everton to Marseille by posting a video from the Shawshank Redemption showing the main character escaping from prison.
