Squid Game 2 has only just dropped on Netflix, but people are already playing a game on Google that will have you on the edge of your seat as you try to beat the creepy doll
Netflix’s Squid Game sequel dropped on Boxing Day, and it’s already causing a stir, with fans gobbling up the series in marathon sessions and exclaiming in disbelief, “What the f**k was that ending”.
The latest instalment whisks viewers back to the deadly island where contestants are gruesomely eliminated as they vie for the colossal golden piggy bank prize.
Despite the grim odds and the option to leave the game by majority vote, hope and human nature lead many to believe they’ll be the last one standing and claim the huge 45.6 billion won jackpot – nearly £25m. Tragically, most will meet their end while dreaming of a life transformed thanks to the tricky games, and some players even doubt whether the games are even that deadly.
Amidst its bleak narrative, the show has impressively scored a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. A critic praised: “Season 2 is smart, provocative and twisted. It deepens characters, steps up the action and moves the story forward while retaining the first season’s dark absurdity.”
Meanwhile, fans have been buzzing on X, formerly Twitter, about a hidden Google ‘Easter Egg’ game inspired by Squid Game, with some players saying they’ve only just discovered it, wondering whether it’s only just been put on the search engine.
“Guys, guys, guys! Google did something. Go and search for ‘squid game season 2’ I don’t really know if this was already there since 2021, but I have seen it for the first time today,” an enthusiastic fan wrote. If you input ‘Squid Game’ into the search engine, a card pops up at the bottom of your screen, similar to the one used to enlist players in the series – but don’t worry, clicking on this one won’t have as severe consequences as it would if you were to come across it in the actual TV show.
Clicking on it will lead you to the ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game, where your mission is to guide six players across the finish line without being eliminated by the eerie doll. You’ll need to stay alert, as the doll doesn’t necessarily turn around when she’s done singing the notorious and creepy song.
One user took to X, writing: “I can NOT stop playing this Google Squid Game”. Another even shared a spoiler that if you successfully get all six players across the line without getting caught, you’ll be presented with the golden piggy bank to celebrate your victory.
Give it a go, and let us know in the comments whether you managed to get all six players across the finish line in time…
