Fans of Sid Meier’s ‘Civilization VII’ can now experience the ‘Ages’ of the game in real life with Eurail launching two new train itineraries exploring rich cultural heritage and landscapes
New train routes have been launched specifically aimed at fans of Civilization VII.
Eurail, a European train pass provider, has teamed up with 2K to launch two new train routes for fans of Sid Meier’s game ‘Civilization’. The first of the two itineraries will explore the Antiquity and Exploration Ages with the ancient Roman and the medieval Norman Empire. The second itinerary will take passengers on a journey through the Modern Age to discover the historical Prussian Empire.
Each itinerary has been designed to immerse travellers in rich cultural heritage and landscapes that have inspired the game.
In Sid Meier’s Civilization VII game, players have to make strategic decisions that in turn shape the unique cultural lineage of their empire. The game comprises three distinct Ages – the Antiquity, Exploration and Modern Age – each with their own exclusive set of historic civilisations to choose from as players evolve their empires
Travellers can explore the itineraries with a Interrail Global Pass, for either four or seven day, within one month, 10 days within two months or 15 days in row.
For example, fans can follow in the footsteps of past rulers, like Augustus, by beginning their journey in Sicily in Italy – renowned for its archaeological treasures – using a four or seven day in one-month Interrail Global Pass inspired by the Roman and Norman Empires. This route includes historical and cultural hubs like Pompeii and Genoa, before continuing along the Mediterranean coast to Nice, which offers a glimpse into the Roman influence in France with stops in Nîmes and Arles.
Travellers can then uncover the Norman Empire starting from Caen – a historic medieval port city renowned for the Abbey of Saint-Étienne, which houses William the Conqueror’s tomb. Travellers will pass from France to England, where they can view London with a Norman lens before venturing further north and deeper into history with an exploration of York. With its Jurassic-age coastline and Roman city walls, this city brings the expedition full circle and has lots to offer history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
For those more interested in the Modern Age, Civilization VII and Eurail have prepared a route inspired by the great Prussian Empire. The journey travels through Germany and Poland to relive the legacy of one of Europe’s most powerful kingdoms.
From grand Gothic cathedrals in Cologne to opulent royal palaces like the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, medieval fortresses to bustling merchant squares in Gdańsk and Poznań, the 15-day continuous or 10 days in two months Interrail Global Pass allows fans to bring the strategy of Civilization VII to life, one legendary city at a time.
“We’re thrilled to bring the adventure of Civilization VII to the real world with Eurail’s new itineraries,” said Dennis Shirk, executive producer at Firaxis Games. “Whether you’re building empires in the game or crossing borders on a train, the spirit of discovery is universal.
“Eurail has always been committed to connecting travellers to Europe’s rich tapestry of culture and history,” added Ajit Soundararajan, business development and growth manager at Eurail B.V. “Partnering with 2K allows us to deepen that experience and inspire a new generation of explorers.”
A four-day Global Pass starts from £180 and the seven-day Global Pass starts from £243 and travel within a one-month period. For a longer adventure, the 10 days in two months Global Pass costs from £285 and the 15-day continuous Global Pass costs from £303.
