David Duchovny – who rose to fame as Agent Fox Mulder in the US hit show X Files – has opened up about getting naked in his new movie, ageing, dying, and the importance of humour
David Duchovny is getting his kit off.
The 63-year-old actor rose to fame as hunky Agent Fox Mulder – alongside Gillian Anderson as Agent Dana Scully – in the hit sci-fi series X Files, 30 years ago. David – who infamously sent fans into meltdown when he wore his red speedos on the show – found himself established as a Hollywood sex symbol back in 1993.
And now, over three decades later, David is keen to show the world that he is ready to embrace ageing. The iconic actor gets naked in his new film, Reverse the Curse, which he has written and directed himself.
Explaining the meaning behind the movie – which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime – David has opened up about his new role, coming to terms with ageing, and using humour as a coping mechanism to help come to terms with his changing body.

In his new romcom, which also stars Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Stephanie Beatriz and Sex and the City’s Evan Handler, the Golden Globe winner plays ailing dad Marty Fulilove. Describing why he decided to write a nude scene for his character – in which Marty shows off his naked body to his son, proclaiming: “It looks like a dead sparrow where my c**k should be” – David explained with humour is an important tool when coming to terms with growing older.
Speaking to Salon, David – who shares two kids, West and Kyd Miller, with his Bad Boys actress ex-wife, Tea Leoni – said: “You can look at horrific things with a sense of humour, and the humour comes from the fact that it’s going to happen to all of us. It’s not like some people age and some people don’t, some people die and some people don’t.”
Describing the scene where his character compares his own body to that of his son’s, the silver fox added: “I think we can laugh at that, and then hug it out. And he comments on his son’s penis in a way that’s funny. I’m laughing and I’m also moved in a way.”
