Nunoe Espirito Santo was confronted by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis following his side’s draw with Leicester as the club chief looked furious following the match
Nuno Espirito Santo says he understands the frustration of owner Evangelos Marinakis after the Nottingham Forest chief furiously confronted his manager on the pitch in the aftermath of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
Marinakis was seen pacing towards Espirito Santo, who appeared to be trying to pacify the frustrated club chief. It appears there was anger with the side seeing Taiwo Awoniyi initially continuing to play after an injury before leaving the field leaving the side with 10 men.
“Football is emotions, it’s difficult to control when we had so much expectation,” said Espirito Santo of the owner’s presence and complaints.
“We are all frustrated,” he said of the situation around Awoniyi.
“It was due to the situation of T. Frustrated to play 10 minutes with a player we had so much confidence in and we made the sub and had to play with one man less.”
Gary Neville has already called for Santo to quit due to Marinakis’ actions. “Scandalous from that Forest owner,” he said.
“Nuno should go and negotiate his exit tonight with him! The Forest fans, players and manager do not deserve that.”
Working on Sky Sports, Neville had already offered a stern view. “If I was Nuno, I’d be going and having a very strong word with him, because that is an absolute scandal,” he fumed.
“He’s just qualified them for a European competition, and from where that club’s been, and to be remonstrated with on that pitch in front of the club’s fans is an absolute joke.”
