Kelsey Grammer became a dad for the eighth time to join a list of older celebrities welcoming children in their later years. The Frasier Crane star has announced he has welcomed his latest child to his clan at the age of 70.
It is his eighth time becoming a dad, and fourth with his current wife Kayte Walsh – his fourth. The acting legend was previously married to Housewives of Beverley Hills star Camille Donatacci from 1997 until 2011. Before that, he was married to Leigh-Anne Csuhany for a year and dance instructor Doreen Alderman between 1982 and 1990.
And he is among good company when it comes to older dads in the showbiz world. Here, we look at some of those to become fathers over the age of 60.
Kelsey Grammer
The actor and his fourth wife Kayte Walsh recently welcomed son Christopher together. He’s the latest addition to his large family.
During an appearance on Pod Meets World, the proud dad said: “Just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids! It was like three days ago. Christopher just joined the family.”
Christopher joins daughter Faith, 13, and sons Kelsey Gabriel, 11, and Auden James, eight, as the children shared by Kelsey and Kayte. The actor also has four kids from previous relationships.
Bernie Ecclestone
The former Formula 1 boss revealed in 2020 he was set to become a dad again at the ripe old age of 89. Despite already being a grandad to five, the billionaire welcomes first son just months before his 90th birthday in October.
Hugh Grant
Hugh Grant, the star of Notting Hill and Love Actually, became a dad for the first time at 51 back in 2011, reports the Mirror. The Hollywood heartthrob, once linked with Elizabeth Hurley, welcomed daughter Tabitha with ex-partner Tinglan Hong.
He then had son Felix Chang with his on-again, off-again girlfriend in 2013. Their two children catapulted Tinglan into the limelight as she mothers the actor’s kids, but he’s now hitched to TV producer Anna Eberstein.
Simon Cowell
Business tycoon and creator of X Factor, is a dad to young son Eric. The British star, now 66, and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman became parents in 2014, when Simon was 54.
They welcomed their son, now six, on Valentine’s Day in New York. Eric, named after Simon’s late father, was born at the city’s Lenox Hill Hospital.
Upon hearing about Lauren’s early labour, Simon hopped on a flight straight to New York. However, Simon has since confessed that he hasn’t ruled out having more kids in the future.
He previously told Lizzie Cundy on This Morning: “If you’d have asked me six years ago I would have probably gone, ‘I might have left this a bit too late,’ but then you go, ‘Oh how you could imagine him not being here.'”.
Sir Elton John
The legendary singer shares two sons with husband David Furnish – Zachary, nine, and Elijah, seven. The musician was 66 when he became a father for the very first time.
Zachary arrived in 2011 thanks to a surrogate mum who helped the couple fulfil their dream of starting a family. Two years later in 2013, Elijah joined the family, with Elton later admitting he adores being a dad so much that he “regrets it a little bit not starting sooner”.
Sir Rod Stewart
The crooner is father to eight children in total, including two with current wife Penny Lancaster. The couple’s sons Alastair and Aiden complete Rod’s brood alongside six children from earlier relationships.
The music icon was 66 when youngest son Aiden was born in 2011.
Sir Mick Jagger
Rolling Stones legend Mick also embraced fatherhood later in life. The frontman was 56 when son Lucas was conceived following a brief romance with Brazilian television personality and model Luciana Gimenez, 50, in 1999.
Lucas, bears a striking resemblance to his rock star father and his seven other siblings.
