Members of the Public and Commercial Services union will walk out on February 12 and take an additional week of targeted industrial action

Workers at the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman are gearing up for a strike next month amid a row over pay and office working.

Members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) will strike on February 12, with a further week of targeted action from February 24 to 28. The decision comes off the back of a decisive vote last week that saw them rally for action against altered work conditions and a mandate pushing a return to office working.

Some 200 employees tasked with probing grievances against UK Government bodies and NHS England find themselves at the heart of this dispute. Fran Heathcote, PCS general secretary, said: “The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman could end this dispute tomorrow by delivering a fairer pay offer, improving working conditions and ending its radically unpopular office attendance policy.

“The employer has not only failed to pay our members the 5% they deserve, it has also issued a 40% office attendance diktat, providing no evidence that forcing our members into the office will make them more productive. If the employer wants to avoid large backlogs of complaints against Government bodies and the NHS, they can talk to us to address our members’ concerns.”
