As Beyoncé prepares for her Cowboy Carter tour, fans might be interested to know the star avoids certain foods depending on what day it is

Beyoncé’s diet is something that many of her loyal fans are obsessed with. Besides her music and upcoming Cowboy Cater tour, the singer is known worldwide for her flawless figure, so it’s no surprise that people want to know every secret.

In January 2019, the mother-of-three posted on Instagram that she participates in a diet trend that restricts her eating—but only on Mondays. She claimed that including “meatless Mondays” into her diet was just one healthy habit that she also encouraged fans to try.

People following the dietary trend will, as the name suggests, avoid eating any form of meat in their meals for the day. The Texas Hold ‘Em singer encouraged her fans to eat more plant-based meals despite not being 100% vegan herself, with her own choices being healthy breakfasts such as smoothies, oatmeal, muffins, and wraps

The meat-free movement isn’t totally new. It has grown in popularity over the years, with many famous faces boosting its profile. Angela Snyder, a wellness dietitian at Houston Methodist, claimed that “incorporating more plant-based proteins into your diet can provide significant health benefits”.

She said: “For starters, we know that plant proteins are more environmentally sustainable than their animal meat counterparts. Second, eating a plant-based diet comes with many health benefits.

“Meatless Mondays is simply about shifting your mindset and actively choosing to incorporate more plant-based proteins into your diet so you can reap the benefits they provide. It’s not something many of us are used to doing, so starting by going meatless just once per week is really approachable for most people.”

Eating less meat can help reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes. It’s also a great way to boost any weight loss plans, as people who eat a plant-based diet usually consume fewer calories and fat overall.

Meats like beef, pork and lamb should be consumed in moderation due to the associated risk of heart disease. Red meats are often high in saturated fat, which can increase your levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Although the singer ditches meat on a Monday, it can be done any day of the week. However, experts found that most people are more open to trying healthy behaviours at the start of the week – seeing it as a bodily ‘reset’.

Planning meatless meals might sound intimidating, but you might be surprised to learn that incorporating plant proteins such as seeds, nuts, legumes and certain grains into your meals is easy and delicious.

Always consult your doctor before making any drastic diet or lifestyle changes to ensure they are suitable for you. Lowering your intake of meat has proven beneficial health-wise, however, maintaining a diet rich in protein is vital for overall wellbeing.
