The location of the number one fish and chip restaurant in Liverpool is located in a Grade II listed building and is a high-end restaurant not a chip shop

A restaurant which is one of the UK’s best for fish and chips has been named, but it isn’t actually a chippy.

The traditional and mouth watering meal is a favourite and there are plenty of takeaways to choose from on Merseyside. But the location of the number one spot on TripAdvisor for fish and chips in Liverpool may be a surprise a few people. That is because it is a Grade II listed building and is where a high end restaurant can be found. The Liverpool Echo reports several restaurants make the top 10 including Yanni’s Traditional Fish & Chips, to The Butterfly and The Grasshopper. But the number one spot on the review site was secured by Wavertree Town Hall.

The restaurant and cocktail bar earned the title of the best fish and chip shop in Liverpool according to TripAdvisor. It clinched the title of having the best fish dinners and second place was given to The Edge at Joey Orr’s, The Butterfly and The Grasshopper came third, The Workshop took fourth place and Yanni’s Traditional Fish & Chips was fifth.

The top ten was completed by the Cargo Seafood Restaurant which was in sixth place Pippin’s Corner on Lark Lane is seventh, Festival Food and Drink now called The Cavern Restaurant was eighth, Spire took ninth place and Docklands Fish & Chip Shop completes the list in tenth. The Mirror reported how a foodie revealed her verdict after trying out London’s most expensive fish and chip restaurant, and admitted she was disappointed.

Who doesn’t love a chippy dinner? Fish, mushy peas, battered sausage – and most importantly chips. As a distinctly British cuisine, high standards are expected with many of us very particular about what we expect from the meal. If you are by the seaside, good fish and chips are a common sight but deep in the heart of London they can be a little hit and miss. The Mayfair Chippy,is an award-winning restaurant renowned for its fish and chips alongside an extensive menu featuring oysters, crab and mussels. It has even secured a 1AA Rosette by the Michelin Guide.

Such is its popularity it’s fully booked almost every day, seven days a week, with lengthy queues forming outside while waiting for one of its coveted spare walk-in tables. With prices starting at £23.95 for the Mayfair Classic, featuring fried cod or haddock, chips, mushy peas, tartar and chip shop curry sauce or HP gravy.

But it was more than double the price of the average fish and chip meal in the UK hichb averaged a cost of £10.92, according to Capital On Tap. The feed, however, left one reviewer disappointed because the restaurant she said did not have enough air conditioning and she was met with queues when she arrived.
