Channel 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm favourite Amanda Owen has offered a candid insight into her family life, revealing an awkward blunder that reduced her to “tears”.

Speaking on the Walking the Dog with Emily Dean podcast recently, the presenter questioned Amanda about whether there are occasions when she finds it difficult to suppress her emotions.

The 51-year-old responded frankly, revealing that her most recent bout of “tears” actually came from fits of giggles following a mortifying mix-up at a family celebration: “When did I last cry? I can’t (remember) I probably cry with laughter actually.

“It was probably sometime around about Violet’s birthday, when I got her a birthday card that said, ‘Happy Birthday, now you’re a teenager’. And she (Violet) said, ‘that was last year’.”

However, beyond her rather amusing family episode with daughter Violet, Amanda also reflected on the darker periods she has endured in her personal life.

She recalled when her father tragically died when she was just 18-years-old and how it helped her understand that she “wished I’d listened more to what people had to say”.

Amanda and her brood initially appeared on television in 2011 through ITV’s documentary programme, The Dales.

The series featured the shepherdess alongside her family of five youngsters, at the time, and ex-spouse Clive, documenting their experiences managing a farm in the Yorkshire Dales.

While they had a number of other roles, it was in 2018 that the family catapulted to stardom with their own series, Our Yorkshire Farm, on Channel 5.

Over a period of four years, the programme became one of the channel’s most-watched, showcasing Amanda and Clive’s attempts to balance raising their nine children while managing their 2,000-acre sheep farm.

Despite the show wrapping up in 2021, the family’s brief absence from our telly screens ended last year when their new programme, Our Farm Next Door, started airing last October.

The Channel 4 series features the entire family as they endeavour to refurbish a derelict farmhouse. Following the success of the initial episodes, the show made a comeback for a second series earlier this year.
