Penny Lancaster has spoken for the first time since her husband Sir Rod Stewart slammed ‘tubby, bald-headed bully’ Gregg Wallace after his behaviour towards the TV star
Penny Lancaster has revealed she’s not shocked by the claims surrounding Gregg Wallace.
Gregg, 60, has stepped down from BBC’s MasterChef following the ongoing controversy around allegations of alleged inappropriate behaviour on MasterChef, which he denies. In wake of the allegations surrounding him which date back 17 years, he addressed the claims which he believed had been made by a “handful of middle-class women of a certain age”.
Wallace is “committed to fully cooperating throughout the process” during the investigation process, a statement from the show’s production company Banijay UK said. Penny’s husband, Sir Rod Stewart furiously lashed out at the TV star, branding him a “tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully.”
But, Lady Stewart has spoken for the first time, admitting Sir Rod’s comments came as no surprise as he leapt to stick up for his wife and what she had endured during her stint on Celebrity MasterChef. In a new interview, the City of London Police special constable admits that she is also not surprised by the incidents that Gregg is accused of.
“It didn’t surprise me about the incidents that Gregg Wallace has been accused of,” she told The Sun. Model Penny went on to add: “I know a lot of people in the industry and it hasn’t really been a surprise to anyone. It is just a shame that so many women feel like they can’t reach out at the time because they don’t feel supported – so hopefully this will have more of a mark on the industry to protect and safeguard.”
The Loose Women presenter went on to state that people often hear about historical cases being questioned about why it has taken a long time for somebody to come forward. She added that people may believe they won’t be taken seriously until more individuals speak out.
Sir Rod had claimed that while Penny had been on the show, she had been bullied by Gregg. A clip of Penny on the cooking show resurfaced, where she was left embarrassed over her fried calamari and tartare sauce. Penny beamed with confidence as she made her dish and remarked: “I’m doing surprisingly well compared to what I imagined how I’d be doing. I don’t want to slip up now.”
However, when it came to tasting her dish things quickly went wrong. As she plated up, Penny said: “That tartare sauce doesn’t look like the tartare sauce I’d normally have.” Gregg told her: “You used whole eggs instead of egg yolks.” Judge John Torode added: “What I’ve got in here is a raw egg/oil milkshake. Unfortunately, I can’t eat that.”
Later in the episode, Penny was able to move on from her mistake as she was praised for her chicken and coconut curry, green papaya chutney, grated apple, turnip and carrot salad as well as the coconut rice. Gregg told her: “I found myself going from bowl to bowl to bowl and finding it difficult to stop, you have had what we call in the industry a very good day.”
However, things took a turn again when chaos ensued in the kitchen during the episode she was eliminated in. Penny was struggling with her timings as Gregg quipped: “Mate, we can’t be 10 minutes late.” He then branded her delay ‘serious’. Wallace had been co-presenter of MasterChef with John since 2005.
