Peter Kay has admitted to causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to Eric Clapton’s holiday home. The comedian first crossed paths with the musician when they met backstage at a gig.

Eric invited Peter and his family to stay at his mansion on Provence which was equipped with a pool and 16 bedrooms. However, Peter said that the pool was took cold for his liking so he went and bought a paddling pool to fill with warm water instead.

The 52-year-old said that he used the time “sipping Baileys, watching Only Fools and Horses on a giant screen through the French doors”.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan when it came to him deflating the pool. When it came to letting the paddling pool down, Peter found that dye from Eric’s black-and-gold Versace towels, which were underneath to soak up water, had stained the sandstone patio tiles.

Peter said: “I grabbed a few scourers from the kitchen, some fairy liquid and we all started scrubbing, but nothing was lifting.

“I pegged it back to the supermarché and bought some steel-wire brushes, industrial floor cleaner and a rake.” Things the got worse as the star then went on to flood the flowerbeds with water from the paddling pool.

Peter talks about the incident in his new book Peter Kay’s Diary where he also discusses the highs and lows of his comedy career.

He explains that he offered to pay for new replacement plants and for the patio to be power washed. He said: “He was puzzled as to why I’d bought a paddling pool in the first place. I told him his pool was freezing.

“He said, ‘But why didn’t you just turn on the pool heating?’. It has heated. No b*gger told me.” This comes as Peter recently revealed he had emergency surgery on a giant kidney stone and a stent needed to be fitted after it caused “major trauma” to his urethra.

His March entry documented a painful time for him several years ago but in his typical comical fashion. Peter said he was on a train from London Euston to Wigan when he felt severe stomach pains and had to rush to the toilet.

Two days later he had throbbing pains in his lower back and googled his symptoms which suggested a kidney stone so went to get medical attention.

Kay writes: “Fast forward 24 hours, and my suspicions were confirmed via a CT scan at the local hospital. It turned out I had a big stone block in the exit of my right kidney.

“He(urologist) reassured me, but said I needed emergency surgery to remove the kidney stone, which would also involve having a stent fitted at my urethra in order to maintain my kidney functions. F**k a duck.

“My pre op bloods confirmed his suspicions that, apparently, my kidney functions were deranged. Well, that’s how the nurse delicately put it. As much as I was shocked, I was also relieved and felt vindicated, as I actually had something wrong with me, and it wasn’t just hypochondria.

“However, kidney stone pain is legendary, and I was starting to sob and make the occasional high pitched whining sound, like when you fire an air rifle at a dog’s testicles.”

Peter underwent the surgery and was left in serious pain for a week when he used the toilet until he had to return to remove the stent.
