Ahead of his TV return, Phillip Schofield made an emotional confession on his upcoming Channel 5 show as revealed his scandal and departure from This Morning nearly destroyed him.

Phillip Schofield Cast Away teased in Channel 5 trailer

While he is ready for his comeback on screens, Phillip Schofield cried over the devastation he experienced amid his scandal on This Morning.

The veteran presenter agreed to step down from his roles on ITV, including Dancing On Ice, in May, 2023, amid reports of a rift with his This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby but it later transpired that the 62-year-old had had an affair with a junior member of staff, causing a stir in the long friendship and triggering controversy.

Though he stepped back from the spotlight after leaving the breakfast show, Phillip Schofield was tipped to be working on a return to TV as sources close to him murmured earlier this year. On Tuesday (September 24), it was then revealed he had landed a job on Channel 5.

Months after his ITV exit, Phillip will star in the special titled Phillip Schofield: Cast Away and, in an explosive trailer, the star made an emotional admission as he broke down in tears.

“I’ve been cast away on a desert island completely on my own. All I have is camera gear, I can say whatever I want about whoever I want”, he first says in the teaser clip. Before unveiling the impact his This Morning impact had on his life: “It’s my chance to tell my side of my story. I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?”

In the programme, viewers will see a dishevelled Schofield stranded on a tropical island for 10 days. During the programme, Phillip will discuss the past two years in detail. Stranded in Madagascar, Phillip will film his day-to-day as he fends for himself while also reflecting on the turmoil he was at the core of.

Speaking about his new role, a source told The Sun : “Over the past few months Phil has had quite a few offers for various things – but has steadfastly turned them all down. This sort of challenge has always appealed to him though and after consulting with friends and family, he decided to go for it. It’s all been top secret, and has been an incredibly quick turnaround in order to keep the news quiet.”

“With 10 days to himself, no camera crews or production around, he shot some unbelievably raw footage – some of it makes for tough, emotional viewing. But he wanted a chance to share his story, unedited and honest, and let viewers see another side to him,” they added.

But the source added that while it was a “massive coup” for Channel 5 and huge news for Schofield, he is in no rush to return to his once lucrative telly career, adding that he was “still bruised.”
