The Up house is located in Abiquiu, New Mexico, and is hosted by none other than Carl Fredricksen – the fictional star of the 2009 Pixar classic whose home has been made real by Airbnb

Disney fans have the chance to stay in a real, lofted version of the Up house.

In the 2009 Pixar classic, a huge mass of colourful balloons floats above an elderly man’s home, elevating it into the clouds and towards adventure. As physics defying as the anti-gravity stunt may be, Airbnb has found a way to imitate the iconic property.

The Up house is located in Abiquiu, New Mexico, and is hosted by none other than Carl Fredricksen – the fictional star of the movie. The yellow painted wood house is true to the design in the film and has a similarly vast number of balloons rising above it.

Unlike the film however, Carl’s home is not actually held up by balloons, but by an enormous crane. Dizzying images of the set up show a towering crane standing above the house which is suspended beneath it. Despite this slightly more explicable means of elevation, guests will still have to be stout of heart to stay in the home when it gets lifted up.

“I don’t always like visitors, but I guess it’s pretty nice to have them now that it’s just me and Dug. So, come stay in my cozy home I made with my dear Ellie,” Carl says on the listing. Anyone can apply to stay in the four-person home, but only a lucky few will be chosen to do so.

Those that are will begin the experience as Junior Wilderness Explorers, like Carl’s young friend Russell in the film. As their stay continues, guests will be sent out on mini adventures and collect badges along the way. They will also be asked to complete chores including collecting the post and ‘minding the house’.

According to the listing, Airbnb purchased Carl and Ellie’s home to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the movie. Requests to book it close on May 13.

“Ellie was the best adventurer, so you’ve got big shoes to fill,” Carl added of his beloved wife, whose fate is explained at the beginning of Up and has been responsible for many an unexpected tear.

“Sleep inside one of Disney and Pixar’s most iconic homes—and yes, it floats. You’ll explore Carl’s world in this detailed re-creation of his home, complete with more than 8,000 balloons, and located in the scenic red rocks of Abiquiu, New Mexico,” Airbnb tempts on its website.

The amazing stay has been launched as part of Icons, a new category of “extraordinary experiences hosted by the greatest names in music, film, television, art, sports, and more”, Airbnb explains.

“Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination—until now. As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world. With Icons, we’ve created the most extraordinary experiences on Earth,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO.

Over the past five years, Airbnb has launched more than 90 experiential stays inspired by people from all walks of life. Some of them include a Home Alone house in Chicago, Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse, Shrek’s Swamp in Scotland, United Kingdom, and the Hocus Pocus house in Danvers, USA.
