‘Solid foundation sticks are having a moment, and I’ve found a brilliant new one for dry skin that leaves it looking radiant all day long,’ says our beauty editor
I’ve been testing lots of new foundations, skin tints and tinted moisturisers recently, so it takes an extra-special one to really impress me – and I think that’s what I’ve found with this innovative new foundation stick, which perfects skin in a flash.
The product in question is Pixi On-the-Glow Base Foundation Moisture Stick, a new extension to the On-the-Glow range that also includes blush, bronzer and highlighter sticks. Calling itself a ‘buildable tinted balm’, it costs £22, is available in 18 shades and contains antioxidants as well as super-hydrating skincare ingredients.
I normally find foundation sticks to be too thick or matte for my personal preference, but this one is totally different, and one I’ve found myself reaching for almost every day since I’ve had it. Here’s why…

Firstly, the stick formula is super easy to apply, and ideal for popping in your handbag for touch-ups during the day. Its unusually long shade means that it covers the face in just a few sweeps, with barely any blending needed (I do still like to go over it with fingers or a brush to ensure it’s properly blended).
It’s the formula, though, that really impresses. It’s named a ‘foundation moisture stick’, and that really apt; I’d even say it was more of a balm, with a bit of tint to it. It feels really creamy on the skin, and leaves a balmy feel that lasts all day; if you’ve tried Jones Road’s viral What The Foundation, this is similar – almost more skincare than make-up. For this reason I think that normal-to-dry skin types who loves a glowy look would love this (it’s probably not one for oily complexions). It can also be ‘set’ or mattified with a powder if you wish.

Really moisturising, makes skin look glowing, easy to apply on-the-go, stays feeling balmy all day, blends really easily
Might be a bit too oily for some complexions, doesn’t ‘set, doesn’t last all day
The finish that this foundation stick gives skin is gorgeous too – dewy, healthy and naturally perfected. It has a sheer coverage so it won’t cover highly pigmented imperfections or leave your skin looking completely flawless, but instead gives a ‘your skin but better’ result.
I often need a fuller coverage foundation than this gives, but for a quick skin boost, say, at the weekend or if I’m working from home, I’ve often been reaching for this nifty stick. If you like a barely-there finish and a juicy feel to the skin, I think you’ll love it too.
If you like your glow to come more from light-reflective pigments than a balmy consistency, you might prefer Charlotte Tilbury’s Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint, £35, which I call “Hollywood Flawless Filter in a stick” in my review.
And for a light face base that lasts a little longer, I’ve also been impressed by Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Gel Tint, £34, which I’ve reviewed in more detail here.
