The horror incident took place on Saturday night, with one of the victims seeing more than a fifth of their body suffer second degree burns as the assailant is yet to be caught

Police are hunting a man who set fire to three people on a Madrid street over the weekend.

The horror attack took place at around 9.30pm on Saturday, July 6, in the Spanish capital with victims suffering second degree burns after they were doused in inflammable liquid and set alight by the attacker in a surprise assault. The attack took place in the working-class district of Puente de Vallecas.

One of the victims, who suffered the worst injury of the three, saw more than 20 per cent of his body receive second degree burns, including his back and arms. He was stabilised at the scene of the attack before being rushed to a specialist burns unit at Madrid’s Le Paz Hospital.

The two others were taken to Gregorio Maranon Hospital in the Spanish hospital with less serious burn injuries to their arms and an eye. Police are investigating although there have been no reports of any arrests. The nationalities of the victims have not been disclosed.

It was not immediately clear this morning if the burn victims suffered a random attack or were deliberately targeted. A spokeswoman for a regional emergency coordination centre said: “Paramedics have assisted three men aged between 45 and 50 after they were doused in an inflammable liquid and set alight. One of them was seriously injured and had second degree burns on more than 20 per cent of his body. Local police attended the scene.” Police have not yet made any official comment.
