Merseyside Police investigators have started investigating the shocking incident after the school seized a kitchen knife from an 11-year-old student at Lingham Primary School
Police have launched an investigation after a schoolgirl pulled out a knife during an innocent game with her friends.
Merseyside Police officers rushed to Lingham Primary School in Moreton, Wirral last Tuesday following reports that the 11-year-old pupil had produced a kitchen knife. The school contacted police, who have launched an investigation after the object was seized and safeguarding measures were activated. While representatives for the service said no one was hurt during the incident, they have appealed for information from the public.
A police spokesperson said the service was alerted to the incident at around 2.20pm, after the Liverpool ECHO reported the knife was produced as the group of girls played.
The publication reported that the pupil had taken the item from their home and that it was taken off them before police were called.
Dave Morgan, the Wirral Local Policing Chief Inspector, asked people who may have additional information regarding the incident to come forward while offering parents, pupils, carers and staff reassurance.
He said: “We understand the concern that such incidents can cause, especially at one of our junior schools.
“Officers will remain in liaison with the school and our partners to offer reassurance to pupils, parents, carers and staff alike. In the meantime, should you have any information about young people carrying weapons, please come forward.” In a statement following the incident issued on Tuesday morning, the service confirmed “enquiries are ongoing”.
