Playa Blanca, at the southern tip of Lanzarote, is a firm favourite with families for most of the year and with average temperatures of 23C in March, it’s perfect for a break
Lanzarote’s Playa Blanca is a top choice for families, offering great beaches and dining options throughout most of the year, according to travel expert Gilly Bachelor.
Located at the southernmost point of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca boasts an upscale feel and stunning sea views towards Fuerteventura. The resort features three beautiful beaches, two of which have been awarded blue flags.
With an average temperature of 23C in March, rising to a high of 29C in August, it’s a perfect spot for sun-lovers all year round. Even in November and December, when temperatures drop in the north, the averages still range from 24C to 22C.
Gilly, a personal travel consultant, said that Playa Blanca is a fantastic destination to visit at any time of the year. She said: “A lot of people go for winter sun, but it’s really good for summer holidays as well. It doesn’t get the peak of temperatures you see in other European destinations.”
Getting to Lanzarote is relatively straightforward, with flights taking just over four hours from Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, London and Edinburgh. The transfer time to Playa Blanca is about 45 minutes, reports the Express.
According to Gilly, who provides a personalised service under Hays Travel, Playa Blanca is also a great destination for multi-generational family trips.
Gilly has revealed that beach lovers are smitten with the picturesque coastal walkway linking the Faro de Punta Pechiguera lighthouse to the buzzing Playa Blanca marina, boasting a plethora of bars and eateries. She enthused: “Playa Blanca’s a really good option for grandparents, who often want to walk to places. Though some people don’t want to leave their hotels. It’s also good for all inclusive.”
On the accommodation front, Gilly tipped her hat to Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort as a favoured stay, nestling by the sea with the golden sands of Playa Dorada at its doorstep. Adding further insight, she said: “There’s a really good range of accommodation in Playa Blanca. There are three to four star hotels, but also a good range for people on a budget. Some on the beach front tend to be more expensive.”
For those looking to snap up all-inclusive deals, Rubicon Palace takes the top spot, situated around a leisurely 20-minute stroll from Marina Rubicon, which hellocanaryislands.com celebrates as an exceptional yachting haven. Gilly gave a nod to another sterling pick over Rubicon Palace in terms of location – the lavish five-star Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park, just a hop away from Playa Flamingo.
Gilly added: “More and more families are moving towards all inclusive now, particularly in this destination. Everyone wants good value. People know what they are spending and can pay in advance, particularly people with teens, who can eat you out of house and home. With drinks and snacks thrown into an inclusive deal, it all helps manage the budget.”
Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet, TUI, British Airways, Iberia, BA Euroflyer and Vueling Airlines all offer direct flights to Lanzarote. According to Skyscanner.net, the most affordable time to fly is typically in March, with a quoted best price for a return flight being £37.
