Former First Dates waitress and fan favourite Laura Tott has shared a vital health update with her fans as she continues to count down the days until she welcomes her second child. The pregnant star, 31, is currently expected her second bundle of joy with husband Sean Clarke and is currently entering her third trimester, meaning she has just 12 weeks to go until the big day.

However, in her latest social media post, Laura revealed that she has been diagnosed with a potentially serious health condition – and it’s one that affected her during her first pregnancy too. First Dates waitress Laura revealed she has developed gestational diabetes, a condition which occurs when your body cannot produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels to safely meet the body’s extra needs in pregnancy.

Laura wrote on Instagram : “A little pregnancy update. Oh we’ve popped! Nearly in the third trimester now. Mad how second time round you literally forget where you’re up to in pregnancy cos you’re so busy with your toddler.

“The first pregnancy I could have probably told you how many minutes pregnant I was, this time round I have to keep checking my dates. Sickness finally eased off a few weeks ago. Started to make up for it by eating everything in sight.”

She then continued: “Glad I made the most of those few weeks now cos [I have] been told yesterday I have gestational diabetes again. Praying this doesn’t affect my delivery choice this time round. Hoping for a VBAC. Just over 12 weeks to go.”

Affecting roughly 30,000 to 40,000 women each year, gestational diabetes affects around 1 in 20 women during their pregnancies, with a range of symptoms indicating the condition including: increased thirst, frequent urination, excessive tiredness, blurred vision, and genital itching or thrush.

The condition is dangerous because it increases risks for both the mother and baby, including high birth weight, birth injuries, pre-eclampsia, premature birth, low blood sugar in the baby after birth, and a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes for the mother later in life.

It can also sometimes lead to more severe complications too, such as needing a caesarian delivery.

Gestational diabetes is also more likely to occur if you’ve suffered with the condition in a previous pregnancy, just like Laura did with her son Leo back in 2023.

Since stepping away from First Dates back in 2021, Laura swapped waitressing to become a paramedic and currently works as a proud member of the NHS – however, her fans have still been able to stay up to date with the latest happenings in her life, thanks to her regular social media updates.
