Premier League stars Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina were left stunned after they linked up with Nigeria during the international break and found they had been given one bed to share at the team hotel.

Nigeria are set to play two World Cup qualifying matches this week, with the Super Eagles set to face Rwanda on Friday before hosting Zimbabwe on Tuesday. However, Iwobi and Aina were shocked after they checked into their shared hotel room and found there was just one double bed.

In a video shared on social media, Iwobi said: “Oh my days, bro. Surely this can be separated man because bro I’ll sleep on the floor.” Aina found the situation hilarious and jokingly responded: “Double bed. Hey, it’s started. Alex, don’t kiss me. Do not kiss me.”

The issue was ultimately resolved, with Iwobi and Aina eventually given two single beds.

Although Iwobi and Aina have never been club teammates, the pair are close friends and grew up together despite coming through the academy system at Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

The duo opened up about their relationship in a video on Aina’s YouTube channel last year, with Iwobi noting that they went to the same school and lived close to each other.

“I was in year five and he was in year four,” Iwobi explained. “My yard is literally a one-minute walk from his and Nigerians always gravitate to each other, so my family and his family integrated and we used to visit each other.

“When you’re playing outside, I’d knock on his door or he’d knock on my door to come outside and have a vibe. My family and his family even to this day still talk to each other.”

Both players are enjoying excellent seasons, with Iwobi currently Fulham’s second-highest Premier League goalscorer as they push for European qualification under Marco Silva. They currently sit eighth in the league, but just four points separate them from Chelsea in fourth.

Aina found the mix-up hilarious

Aina, meanwhile, has been ever-present for Nottingham Forest as they enjoy an outstanding campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo. Forest are currently third, five points clear of Chelsea, and are the only team to have beaten champions-elect Liverpool in the league.

Nigeria, however, have failed to pick up a single win from their four World Cup qualifiers so far as they drew with Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa before losing to Benin. As a result, they need to pick up some victories in order to keep their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup alive.
