Nicolas Cage has been a Hollywood A-lister for decades, but he shuns the typical celebrity lifestyle and instead resides in a quiet, largely unassuming village in Somerset

Nicolas Cage, the Hollywood A-lister known for his eclectic roles and aversion to bees, has shunned the typical celebrity hubs of Los Angeles and California for a quieter life in a quaint UK village.

The actor, who is best known for giving his all in films such as The Wicker Man and Kick-Ass, has been a part of the thriving Baltonsborough, Somerset community for the past 15 years. The Hollywood star is often seen by locals who have grown accustomed to his presence.

When not shooting porcine classics such as Pig, Cage finds time to retreat to his rustic Somerset cottage. Speaking to Absolute Radio during the pandemic, he expressed his longing to return: “I have a modest little cottage in Somerset I have been dreaming to get back to. With everything we have been contending with it has been so difficult. I am looking forward to getting back to your side of the world. Such nice people in Somerset.”

Despite its small population of just 864, Baltonsborough offers a sense of community that Cage appreciates. It also provides high-quality British food. The actor has previously outed himself as a big fan of Cornish pasties, which he previously said are “so delicious and they were the perfect thing to put in your lunch.” Cage is also partial to fish and chips. Many years ago the Face-Off actor made a visit to a local chippie in Glastonbury – just six miles away from his UK home.

Speaking to the Mirror recently, George Morey, head fryer at award-winning chip shop Knights Fish Restaurant, recalled the Wild at Heart actor’s visit. He explained: “Many years ago Nicolas Cage came in and my sister served him and had a photo taken with him. I think he ordered about six pickled eggs and six pickled onions and a few gherkins as well so he’s a big fan of his pickles obviously.”

In 2010 he was also spotted picking up fish suppers for his family from Whitstones fish and chip shop in Shepton Mallet, after turning on the Christmas lights in Bath. At the time, owner Mark Swain said: “He came in as we were closing, but we decided not to turn him away.”

Whether it is due to the cheap and plentiful supply of pickled-goods in the UK, the place has clearly left its mark on Cage. He recently told Somerset Life: “I am a self-confessed Anglophile. I love everything about England; the history, the people, the countryside, the culture – you name it, I love it. I love seeing places like Buckingham Palace and all those other fantastic buildings which are steeped in history and culture. I love the whole concept of the Royal Family.”

On New Year’s Eve 2020, there was quite the stir in Somerset when Cage popped into the local pub, joining the New Year festivities with locals. This little gesture warmed the hearts of residents as one astounded pub-goer shared on Reddit that Cage even splashed out on a round of drinks for everyone.
