Candle fans were quick to draw comparisons between Loewe and Primark after spotting the new tomato-scented item in Primark
Primark is selling a £5 tomato-scented candle that reminds fans of an £85 candle by designer label Loewe. Fragrance fans were quick to spot Primark’s new candle in stores, and many were keen to sniff the unusual scent.
One such shopper, Aimee Michelle (@Aimeemichelle_a) shared her first impressions of the scent in a TikTok video that’s since been viewed over 20,000 times. “Look at this new candle scent that Primark Home are doing. You need to see this,” Aimee told followers.
“It is tomato and basil scented. Yes, a tomato-scented candle in Primark.” Sharing feedback, the shopper suggested: “The container is horrible. I can’t say I rate it, but it’s only £5, and I can report this actually smells of tomatoes.”
Aimee compared the candle to the Daylesford Vine Tomato Scented Candle, which costs £37 from Ocado. Meanwhile, commenters offered another comparison.
Someone commented: “I think it’s [an alternative] of a Loewe candle.” Another agreed, sharing an emoji that said “100%.” Loewe’s Tomato Leaves Scented Candle, which is available from John Lewis, costs £85 for 170g or £354 for 2120g.
As such, Primark’s small candle could offer a more affordable option for fragrance fans who enjoy tomato scents. Not everyone was so convinced by the idea, based on the reaction to Aimee’s video. A commenter said: “I can’t imagine this.” But another wrote: “I love Primark atm.”
Meanwhile, someone shared: “A couple of years ago I bought a tomato and basil reed diffuser from Aldi. it was so strong the whole house started to smell like a greenhouse.” Clearly a fan, Aimee replied: “Ah that would be amazing let’s hope they bring it back!”
Reacting to Aimee’s post about the candles on Instagram, a fan added: “These are so cool! I saw the tomato and basil one you said smelt like tomato! I’m actually wanted to get that.” Another commenter thought: “Ooh it’s different I’ll say that.”
Shoppers keen to smell the candle for themselves can check their local stores. It does not appear to be available on Primark’s website, though some products are available to shop online.
