Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation posted an update with a brand new message – coming just days before Harry’s Invictus Games for 2025 kicks off in Vancouver and Whistler

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have issued a statement with an urgent plea ahead of a major trip.

The Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation posted an update urging people to learn about “leaders, activists, and changemakers who have inspired progress” at the start of Black History Month. The new statement comes just days before Prince Harry is expected to be in Canada for the start of the Invictus Games, which kicks off in Vancouver and Whistler on Saturday.

Black History Month is marked in February in both the United States and Canada, and a new post on the Archewell Foundation site shares a list of resources for people keen to learn more and get involved.

The statement reads: “At The Archewell Foundation, we celebrate the rich culture and contributions of those who have come before us throughout history. As we mark Black History Month, we encourage everyone to learn and reflect on the contributions of leaders, activists, and changemakers who have inspired progress.

“Taking the time to appreciate stories, art, history, and culture not only honors the communities that have built these spaces but also contributes to our collective wellbeing. We as a team have compiled the below list of resources and spaces to engage with both this month and always.”

Among the resources readers are pointed to are the California African American Museum in Los Angeles, the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco, the African American Museum in Dallas and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.

It comes as the Invictus Games for sick and injured serving and former military personnel kicks off with a star-studded opening ceremony featuring Katy Perry and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

The Duke of Sussex is expected to be joined by his wife, Meghan Markle, but his frosty relationship with his royal relatives, especially his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, means they will not be on hand to support him.

He is, however, set to get some royal support – that’s because it has been confirmed that Prince Joachim of Denmark and his wife, Princess Marie, are set to be at the Games. Joachim is the younger brother of King Frederik of Denmark, with the Danish Royal House confirming his and Marie’s attendance at the Games.

Harry last crossed paths with Joachim in 2017, when the pair both visited a military training centre together in the Danish capital Copenhagen. At it seems that Joachim has also had family drama with his own royal relatives – similar to Harry.

In 2022, his mother the former Queen Margrethe decided that Joachim’s children would be stripped of their prince and princess titles. This means his children Nikolai, Felix, Henrik and Athena are now count or countesses and no longer styled His/Her Royal Highness. Meanwhile, Joachim and Marie no longer live in Denmark and have relocated to Washington DC in the United States.
