Prince Harry’s friends ‘did not warm’ to Meghan Markle and have found it difficult to find common ground with a ‘politically correct Californian’, says royal expert

Meghan Markle had a hard time finding common ground with Prince Harry’s best mates, according to a royal expert.

Many were shocked at the Sussexes’ notable absence from the ‘society wedding of the year’ last week. Hugh Grosvenor – who is one of Harry’s oldest friends and godfather to the Sussexes’ son Archie – tied the knot with Olivia Henson at Chester Cathedral on Friday. A large number of royals attended the celebration and Prince William had been chosen to be an usher at the event.

However, according to a royal expert, their exclusion from the event should perhaps come as less of a surprise. Richard Eden points out that Harry’s pals have never really seen eye-to-eye with his wife, finding it difficult to find common ground with the “politically correct Californian”.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Eden revealed that Meghan failed to make a good first impression with Harry’s friends when they were first introduced. He said: “When Prince Harry started introducing new girlfriend Meghan Markle to his closest pals back in 2017, not all of them warmed to the American actress.”

Pointing out the stark contrasts between Harry’s mates and the Duchess, Eden added: “Harry’s friends, after all, tend to be country sports enthusiasts with an earthy sense of humour, while Meghan is a politically correct Californian who practises yoga when she’s not sipping green smoothies or nibbling avocado on toast.”

Meghan’s failure to get along with Harry’s mates has seen the Duke isolated from his former circle of old Etonian and army friends. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, royal author and expert Tom Quinn explained: “As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”

He added: “He misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan. Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security.”
