A professional cleaner has shared a simple hack to remove grim yellow stains from your toilet – and it’s been branded ‘fantastic’ by the public who have tried it

A professional cleaner has revealed an amazing method for tackling those unsightly yellow stains on your toilet.

Jumping onto TikTok, the cleaning expert from MaidofGoldCleaning demonstrated how a single versatile item can wipe away stubborn marks from your loo seat and bowl.

Their handy advice didn’t go unnoticed and has clocked up more than 18,000 likes, earning heaps of praise from grateful viewers who’ve seen their toilets transform from shabby to chic.

In a viral video, MaidofGoldCleaning made it look like a breeze to banish the grime and stains, later revealing the magic behind the makeover. But some are saying the hack may leave a bit of damage over time.

They wrote: “Magic Erasers are a fantastic way to remove stains off your toilet seat.” Those who tested out the trick have been singing its praises, marvelling at how efficiently it gets the job done.

Some fans confessed they use the Magic Eraser for all sorts of clean-ups around the house but were struck with a ‘light bulb’ moment when they realised its potential as a loo scrubber.

Comments poured in, with one person saying: “I do everything with Magic Eraser sponge, why I haven’t thought of doing the toilet seat also, thank you!!”

Another relieved user commented: “This is actually so helpful. My kids have stained one of our toilets and nothing gets it off, not even bleach. I never thought to use a magic eraser.”

However, a word of caution emerged – make sure to have spares since once it’s used on the loo, disinfecting the sponge itself could be tricky. One user was puzzled, asking: “But now how do you disinfect the Magic Eraser?” This eco-conscious individual didn’t want to keep repurchasing items.

Meanwhile, someone else cautioned that the eraser might leave marks or cause damage over time, posting: “Takes off the sealant and makes the plastic porous and worse over time.” Despite concerns that the “abrasive” magic erasers can wear things down, their ability to clean a toilet bowl remarkably well is not in question.

Another tip came from a user who recommended cleaning your seat “every day” to stop stains before they start. For those interested, Magic erasers are available from Flash at most supermarkets – Sainsbury’s offers them at about £3 for a pack of two.

For more serious yellow stains, a Reddit thread suggests it may be time for a new toilet seat entirely. They wrote: “Cleaning products or fake tan can do this. I doubt you can get this out, I’d recommend replacing it.” Another user suggested bleaching the toilet seat over time would eventually stain it.

They added: “Bleach will yellow plastic. It won’t come off. Buy her a new seat and replace it for her. I’m sure she won’t mind.”
