Fabiana Maia Veras, from Brazil, was foundly found dead inside her home office based in the Rio Grande do Norte State – months before her death she posted a haunting social media post
A psychologist who was tortured to death was found tied up with fatal stab wounds inside her home office.
Fabiana Maia Veras, who was in her 40s, was discovered lifeless inside her clinic in Assu, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil, on April 23. Fabiana, who was also a bodybuilder, is believed to have tried to fight off her attacker before she was horrifically killed. According to local media, police have identified a suspect as a 41-year-old lawyer who is said to be employed by the state’s Court of Justice.
The police believe the suspect could have committed the crime over the victim’s relationship with his ex-partner. Harrowing footage showed the moments leading up to her death when she opened the door to the lawyer. The footage showed him follow her into the building, whilst wearing a surgical facemask and hoodie, before the clip cut. In another video, he was arrested by armed police the following day.
Police seized a knife, a gun and two pairs of brass knuckles and said the suspect left Fabiana’s office after he washed his blood-stained hands in the kitchen before fleeing in a black car. But before driving off, local media reports, the 41-year-old went back into the property to retrieve a bag he left behind, which police believe contained a bladed weapon. He also took the victim’s cell phone but left behind the psychologist’s small arsenal of firearms, whch she had permits for. Fabiana’s body was discovered a few hours later by an employee, who alerted the police.
The police said the body had at least six stab wounds – three to her neck and three in her back. Assú’s police chief, Valério Kurten, said that the pair appeared to know each other, reports The Sun. He analysed the footage and said: “She hugs him, so you can see that there is an affectionate gesture. So, yes, they knew each other. She was surprised by his clothing, but she responded, took him, and then we saw the image of him leaving with a hand full of blood.”
The bodybuilder had previously warned her followers about the warning signs of a poisonous relationship. The chilling post from September said: “There are several telltale signs of a toxic relationship, such as a lack of mutual support, harmful communication patterns, constant anxiety and fear, as well as jealousy, attempts at control, threats, criticisms disguised as compliments, and other harmful behaviours. If you notice any of these signs in your relationship, it’s crucial to recognise and evaluate what’s going on.”
Police surgeons are carrying out an autopsy to establish exactly how Fabiana died. The man is in custody at the Assu Police Station. The investigation is ongoing.
