A pyjama brand owner has waded in on the age-old debate of when you should be washing your nightwear, admitting that she has seen some pretty “wild answers” on the topic

The boss of a pyjama company has shared her two cents on just how often you should be washing your nightwear, recommending that people aim for a “happy medium”.

Pyjama mogul Kate Barnét has encountered some quite “wild answers” to this question, spanning from every day – which she deems “excessive” and hardly eco-conscious – to a concerning 18 days stretch. In her recent TikTok upload, Kate detailed that the decision to toss your PJs into the laundry is not as straightforward as one might assume, mentioning there are a “couple of factors” that play into this choice and it can differ between individuals.

Via her TikTok handle @katebarnetltd, she outlined: “There are a couple of factors that should come into it. Do you wear underwear with your pyjamas? Another big debate.” Additionally, the type of material can influence how long you can go without washing them.

For instance, “100% cotton… is going be breathable, you’re going to get less sweaty, they’re going to feel fresher longer,” Kate explained. She also mentioned: “If you’re washing before you go to bed with your pyjamas, that extends how long you can wear them before giving them a wash.”

According to Kate’s expert stance, a set of jammies has a typical shelf-life of “three to four days” before they need to be replaced with a clean pair. Kate’s advice on the video app has certainly struck a chord, sparking a lively debate in the comments where users are voicing their personal sleepwear routines and preferences.

Opinions varied wildly, with some individuals stating they switched their sleepwear “every day”, while others were content for a week in the same night attire. One person disclosed: “I shower every night, every two days change my cotton PJs and no underwear!” Another shared: “I shower every two days. That’s when I change them.”
