Oladip Oshadi raped his victim and subjected her to a brutal beating before she fled the home in Dagenham and collapsed in the street where passers-by took her to safety

A rape victim managed to jump of of a window to escape her attacker before he was later caught by police.

Oladip Oshodi was found to have made sexual advances towards a woman at his home in Mayesbrook, Dagenham on the evening of July 11, 2023. Despite the victim making it abundantly clear she didn’t want to sleep with him, he proceeded to rape her twice during the course of the night.

The 48-year-old also subjected her to a brutal beating which she managed to escape by jumping out of a ground floor window onto the street where she collapsed in the middle of the road before concerned passers-by called police and carried her to safety. She was taken to hospital where she was treated for her injuries and supported by specialist officers.

Oshodi was arrested the next day on July 12 by detectives from the Met Police’s East Area Public Protection Unit and he was remanded in custody during proceedings. On May 10 of this year he was convicted of all counts and, this week, was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment for two counts of rape, administering a noxious substance, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm and controlling coercive behaviour at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee said: “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he will now serve a long sentence in a place where he will not pose a threat to women. I commend the bravery of the victim and the witnesses in this case. Oshodi showed no remorse throughout the investigation and trial, and I am pleased that he has been made to face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, who is a specialist officer dealing with victims of sexual offences, said: “The survivor in this case was fleeing for her life when she jumped onto the street to escape this man. I hope that the sentence handed down encourages other women who have been the victim of sexual offences to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to keep you safe and support you every step of the way.”
