Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has made the bold prediction that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be the world ’s top right back after joining Real Madrid.

And Alcaraz, a mega Real supporter, said he hopes to meet the England international to have a conversation in Spanish after he was impressed with his linguistic skills at last week’s unveiling.

Alexander-Arnold will make his debut for the Spanish giants against Al Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday evening. Real also face Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg in the group stages of the Club World Cup.

And, as reported by Marca, Alcaraz said: “If I ever meet him, I’m going to speak to him in Spanish. His Spanish is very good. I was surprised when I heard it.

“I have a lot of respect for him. It’s great to have him at Real Madrid. I’m convinced he’ll be the best right back in the world.”

Alexander-Arnold will wear No12 at Real and said he opted to have his first name on the back of shirt because fans on the continent find his double-barrel surname confusing.

“My kit name being only ‘Trent’? It’s an easy explanation, I always found when I travel to Europe, the three-name situation and it being double-barrelled was confusing,” he said last week.

“People call me Arnold, Alex, Trent… I thought let’s make it simple. Just Trent. That’s my name and I guess that’s what people will call me.”

Of the switch, which angered many Liverpool fans, he added: “I always knew, if I was to ever leave Liverpool, it would only be to go to Real Madrid, that would be the only club for me.

“I’m not going to say it was easy because I’d been there so long, been a part of it, but eventually, you have to make a decision.

“In my mind, I’ve made the right one and it’s one that I’m very excited about.”

Alexander-Arnold said it was a “dream” to join Real after leaving Liverpool, who he joined as a six-year old and went on to win two Premier League titles, a Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

He added: “I want to show them what I can do, I want to win many titles, be champions, and continue to grow and enjoy football with the best in the world.”
