A popular food blogger shared her easy recipe for making pigs in blankets sausage rolls this Christmas – they take less than 20 minutes and foodies are ‘running’ to make them
Christmas is the perfect time to wow your guests with a mouth-watering treat that will leave them in culinary heaven – and these pigs in blankets pastries could do the trick.
As we indulge in traditional festive delights like turkey dinners, mince pies, and Christmas pudding, why not serve up some pre-feast treats to get the party started? If you’re hosting a festive bash before the big day, it’s an ideal opportunity to try out a new recipe to impress your guests.
Canapés are always a hit, and food blogger Sarah Rossi, aka Taming Twins, shared her ultimate guide to making scrumptious pigs in blankets sausage rolls from her book What’s For Christmas Dinner?, which was released in mid-October.
On her TikTok page @tamingtwins, where she posted a tutorial video, Sarah exclaimed: “Pigs in blankets sausage rolls. The best new hybrid for Christmas. These are so easy and so good!”
To make this recipe, you’ll need 400g of pork sausages (about six), 84g of prosciutto (about six slices), 320g of rolled-out puff pastry, 50g of cranberry sauce, one beaten egg, and two teaspoons of poppy seeds.
Sarah begins by preheating her oven to 200C, then chops six sausages in half and wraps each piece with a slice of prosciutto. Check out the ultimate festive snack folks are raving about online.
It’s not just your usual pigs in blankets, but a genius culinary creation that has taken the internet by storm. In her latest bestselling cookbook, home chef Sarah reveals a game-changing twist on the classic sausage roll.
How to prepare
Sarah started out heating her oven at 200C, then began chopping up six sausages into halves. After she wraps a piece of prosciutto around each sausage piece.
Next she rolled out a sheet of pastry and cut it into 20 even squares. She spreads cranberry sauces across the middle of the pastry sheets, before adding her pigs in blankets in the middle. Then you need to pull the sides of each pastry sheet and wrap it around the meat.
Lay out some grease proof paper onto a baking tray, before adding on your little treats on top. Next, whisk an egg before brushing it over the top of each one as well as some poppy seeds. After a quick 15-min bake, they come out gloriously golden.
In her book, Sarah enthuses: “My love of a good sausage roll knows no bounds, so it was only a matter of time until this delicious hybrid appeared. We’ve used prosciutto here rather than regular bacon, as it’s thinner and works better hidden beneath the pastry.”
But she cautions: “Don’t be tempted to add more cranberry sauce – it will leak out of the rolls and burn. The poppy seeds are optional.”
Unsurprisingly, the comments section of Sarah’s video is bursting with enthusiasm. One person said: “Yum! Pigs in blankets in sleeping bags.”
Another said: “They look so yummy.” “Looks lovely,” added one other. “Oh wow,” wrote another. Someone else said they are “running” to whip up these treats.
