Brits have been left mind-blown after discovering this Hollywood icon’s true identity.
Actress and film producer Reese Witherspoons is one of the world’s biggest stars, featuring in a slew of iconic titles including Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions, Friends, and Sweet Home Alabama. But, the 48-year-old, from Louisiana, US, grew up with a totally different name – and only adopted ‘Reese’ (her mother’s maiden name) as her professional moniker when she got into acting.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, with Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman, the award-winning star revealed how the name still causes confusion when she’s behind the camera.
The pair discuss Reese’s habit of calling fellow cast member Laura Dern by her second name, to which Nicole says: “I hate how you call her Dern. It sounds weird.” But Reese explains the rationale behind the habit, stating: “I’m gonna tell you why… Because my name is Laura, and her name is Laura, and it’s confusing to me. My real name is Laura Jeanne.”
Hundreds of gobsmacked users flocked to the comments section to express their thoughts, with many claiming they were ‘today years old’ when the discovered the revelation. “I’m 42 years old. She has always been my absolute favourite! And I learnt this today?!!! Oh my God,” one user raved.

Another agreed, commenting: “As a fellow Laura, this is such an exciting revelation!” A third added: “Wait wait just a minute. LAURA?!” while a fourth penned: “Her name is WHATTT?!”
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon has no film credits with her legal name, which is why very few people know it, and has been using the moniker ever since she dropped out of Stanford to pursue her dream of being a Hollywood icon. But those close to the star will know her as Laura.
