River Island shoppers say they ‘need’ a stunning £36 bag that looks like it could cost hundreds more than the price tag
Fashion fans have fallen in love with a £36 River Island bag that’s strikingly similar to Jimmy Choo’s iconic Bon Bon bags. The beloved design house is known for its luxury accessories range, including its glitzy bucket bags.
However, at upwards of $4,000, Jimmy Choo’s beautiful Bon Bon bags are out of reach for many. Fortunately, River Island has just the thing for high-street shoppers looking for a similar look, and shoppers love the eye-catching style.
River Island offers a Multicoloured Embellished Floral Bucket Bag, a Cream Droplet Bucket Bag, and a Green Embellished Bucket Bag, priced at £36 each. The Multicoloured Embellished Floral Bucket Bag and theGreen Embellished Bucket Bag were recently featured in a viral video.
Two style gurus who post together on TikTok as @charleyandbiagio showcased the bags in a clip captioned: “The perfect Ibiza finds in River Island.” They added: “River Island providing all the summer goods this year.”
The video received over 100,000 views and 14,000 likes. While the shoppers showcased a range of summer styles in the video, the colourful bags got lots of attention. One shopper said: “I fear I need that first bag.” A second praised: “Wow the colours,” prompting @charleyandbiagio to reply: “Especially in the first bag.” Someone penned: “Omgggg,” and another said: “I’d be buying the whole store.”
A different viewer wrote: “That will be £189 for the bag please.” When @charleyandbiagio pointed out the Multicoloured Embellished Floral Bucket Bag has a £36 price tag, they added: “Oh wow!! Not bad price at all! Okay you have convinced me I’ll go River Island.” Someone else commented: “Jimmy Choo [alternative].” The eagle-eyed shopper didn’t specify which bag they were talking about, but they could have easily been talking about Jimmy Choo’s Bon Bon bags.
Like the designer alternative, River Island’s bucket bags are covered in sparkles. Both the silhouette and the diamante handles call to mind Jimmy Choo’s bags. That said, there are many notable differences between the accessories.
Jimmy Choo’s luxury offering features a hotfix crystal embellishment with a hand-finished crystal bracelet handle. The Italian-made bag also boasts a metal tassel closure with Jimmy Choo engraving.
While both brands have opted for colourful designs with their interpretation of the popular silhouette, the prints and colourways differ. According to the product description for the Green Embellished Bucket Bag, River Island’s bag is inspired by visual artist Joe Horner.
