The mum-of-three’s favourite green drink is said to be better for your health than a cup of coffee in the morning

Rochelle Humes is one of millions who enjoy a healthy green drink that’s packed with nutritional benefits. The TV presenter has spoken openly about how much she loves the drink’s ‘powerful’ ingredient.

According to reports, the former Saturdays singer swears by one superpowered drink that’s fairly easy to make at home. Traditionally served at tea ceremonies in Japan, matcha is a type of green tea made from powdered leaves that’s now widely available and used in cooking around the world.

On her Instagram feed, Rochelle shared exactly how she takes her matcha latte. The singer whips up maple syrup and cinnamon with her blend of organic matcha and oat milk.

The occasional This Morning presenter has become so influenced by the power of matcha that she co-launched her own wellness brand centred around the green superfood. The website sells powders, tea sets and other forms of merchandise.

The green beverage has plenty of health benefits ranging from head to toe. Experts have claimed it helps with smoother skin, weight management and could be brain-boosting too.

Including matcha in your diet could increase your antioxidant intake, which may help prevent cell damage and lower your risk of several chronic diseases. The green powder is rich in catechins, a class of plant compounds, that help stabilise harmful free radicals that can damage cells and cause chronic disease.

Derived from green tea leaves, matcha is also known to boost any weight loss goals. A study found that, when incorporated into a balanced diet with exercise, the effects of green tea could help with steady and healthy weight loss.

Another study, published in 2015, found evidence to suggest that green tea consumption may have positive effects on your risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Other studies have linked it with enhanced brain performance too.

One showed that consuming two grams of green tea powder daily for two months helped improve brain function in older people. Another trial found that people showed improvements in attention, reaction time, and memory after drinking tea or eating a bar containing four grams of matcha.

While studies on matcha look promising, it is not a miracle solution to losing weight. Following a balanced diet, exercising regularly, drinking plenty of water, limiting alcohol and quitting smoking are all crucial for maintaining a healthy weight.

Speak to your doctor first before trying matcha, especially if you take certain medications. People who are sensitive to caffeine may also want to pass on matcha as it could cause anxiety and disrupt sleep
