Manchester United are set for a busy transfer window this summer as Ruben Amorim replenishes his squad and it appears that Matheus Cunha is near the top of the club’s list

Ruben Amorim remained coy when asked about Manchester United’s interest in Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. United are pushing ahead with a £62.5million move for Cunha, with Amorim looking to start reshaping his squad with a major overhaul this summer.

Amorim is also looking at Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Ipswich forward Liam Delap, but refused to be drawn on Cunha when questioned about United’s interest. “I will not say nothing about Matheus, because if I say I have to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and not comment on that,” said Amorim.

“We have to focus on this season and the way we prepare for next season could change in these games, so it’s difficult to predict what can happen in the future.”

Asked if United still have the same pull, despite being down in 14th place in the Premier League, Amorim said: “It’s Manchester United. What I feel is there are a lot of players that want to play for our club.

“If you look at our club at the moment, with all the problems, changing the coach, it looks a little bit of a problem.

“But we have a clear idea and that’s the easiest part to explain for a player. So it’s [still] Manchester United and every player wants to play for Manchester United.”

United go to Bournemouth on Sunday and even though there is nothing on the game for Amorim’s side, given their position in no man’s land in the table, the Portuguese coach is demanding a response after last weekend’s 1-0 home loss to Wolves – their 15th in the league this season.

“The focus is we have to face it and we need to have that feeling that every game here is important and we have to win every game,” said Amorim. “So it’s important not to lose.

“Of course, you can see the context. We are going to face this game with the best team, we have had a full week to prepare, some of the players didn’t play against Wolves, so to recover the players is not a bad thing. I will try to prepare for this game and try to win the next one.”

Asked if he had made his mind up on which players he wants to offload this summer, Amorim said: “Everything can happen. Casemiro is the best example.

“He wasn’t playing, then you see in the last games he’s playing a part, he’s performing quite well, he’s playing all the time. “So I like to change my mind and, if they change my mind, I like that, I want to put the best players in my team.

“Every game is important for us. We have to put our standards really, really high and I feel every day the board understands the context, what we want to do and that our idea is really clear.”
