Ruben Amorim has shared an update about Manchester United’s transfer plans following their 1-0 win over Fulham, with the January window set to slam shut very soon

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted the club will be “cautious” in the January transfer window, admitting they cannot afford to make the same “mistakes”.

United have yet to make any new signings so far this month, although they have shipped Antony out on loan to Real Betis. Amorim is looking to strengthen his squad, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to bring in any reinforcements.

When asked about United’s plans for the final week of the transfer window after their 1-0 win over Fulham, Amorim told TNT Sports: “We have to be cautious. The rules here and you know that we have to follow the rules, we have made mistakes in the past and we cannot do it now.

“We are focused on improving the team, but let’s see. Let’s focus on the players that we have and the next game.” And in his post-match press conference, Amorim took a brutal swipe at Marcus Rashford, with the forward once again not making the matchday squad.

Rashford is expected to leave United before the window closes and when asked about the 27-year-old’s future, Amorim said: “We missed a little bit of pace to go and change the game and move some pieces.

“But I prefer it like that. I would put [goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before I put the player who does not give the maximum every day so I will not change in that department. It’s always the same reason.

“The reason is the training. The way I see what a footballer should do in training, in life, every day. If things don’t change, I will not change. Same situation for every player, if you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player.”

Amorim also admitted he is unsure whether Alejandro Garnacho will remain at the club amid interest from Napoli and Chelsea, despite the fact the winger has started United’s last two matches.

“That nobody knows,” Amorim added. “Anything can happen but with Garna, he is improving in every department of the game, the way he recovered, the understanding of the game, the way he defends.

“I’m trying to find the best position for him. Today he played more open and not so much inside. We need guys one against one but I don’t know what will happen until the end of the window.”
