The head of the UK Space Command Maj Gen Paul Tedman has revealed that Russia have been tracking UK satellites for some time, as he revealed the extent of Moscow’s interference

Russia has been targeting UK satellites in space on a weekly basis, a top military general has warned.

Maj Gen Paul Tedman, the head of the UK Space Command, revealed just how much Moscow has been trying to interfere with UK assets. He made the stark warning during a visit to RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire.

He further stressed that Russia has also attempted to block the satellites with ground-based systems. “We’re seeing our satellites being jammed by the Russians on a reasonably persistent basis,” he said

It comes just after Germany’s Defence Minister issued a similar warning last month. Boris Pistorius said Vladimir Putin’s country was shadowing their military satellites.

Gen Tedman said: “They’re interested in what we’re doing and flying relatively close. They’ve got payloads on board that can see our satellites and are trying to collect information from them.”

He added: “We’ve committed to invest a billion pounds into integrated air and missile defence, and I’d be surprised if there’s not a space aspect to how we’re going to defend the UK from threats very similar to [America’s] Golden Dome.”
