Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes’ marriage reportedly ended after the Loose Women presenter discovered he was ‘sharing intimate chats with another woman’. The former This Morning stars shocked fans when they announced their separation after 14 years of marriage last year.

Eamonn has since moved on with his new girlfriend Katie Alexander, with the pair showcasing their romance with trips and outings. The former couple had been together since 1996 and married since 2010. While the duo have kept mostly quiet about their split, Ruth previously said dealing with the divorce had been ‘very painful’ for her – especially while handling it in the public eye.

And now, it has been claimed Eamonn’s actions were “the straw that broke the camel’s back” with their marriage. An insider recently alleged Ruth discovered him secretly talking on the phone with another woman when Eamonn thought she wasn’t home.

Weeks later, she reportedly found messages on his laptop, which was a ‘real kick in the teeth’ for Ruth and triggered their shock split. Speaking of the alleged discovery of the phone call, a source told The Sun that the Irish presenter ‘thought he was home alone’ when he was on the phone.

“But Ruth could hear him from elsewhere in the house and was totally horrified,” they said. “She confronted Eamonn. It was quite a shock — for both of them.”

The insider added it was ‘a huge blow’ for Ruth, who recently celebrated her 65th birthday with her close friends, as she was caring for him as he dealt with health issues.

“To discover he was sharing intimate chats with another woman was a real kick in the teeth for Ruth,” they claimed. The source went on to allege the discovery of the phone call happened in April last year, and a few weeks later, she found messages on his laptop.

Last June, it was also claimed Ruth found messages between her husband and another woman on a laptop, with a source telling the same publication that Ruth was “devastated” and “angry”.

A joint statement issued after their split said simply: ”Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Ruth previously opened up about the ‘painful’ split and told Woman and Home Magazine: “A break-up of a relationship is hard enough for anybody to deal with. A divorce is very difficult and it’s very painful, but most people don’t have to do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion about you and writing things about you and commenting things about you.

“But that’s the nature of my job. I’ve always had that and if you can’t cope with that, you shouldn’t be doing this job. I’m quite fine being on my own, but not forever. When you’re in a relationship, it’s easy to say, ‘Great, I’ve got a weekend to myself,’ but when you think that might be every weekend, it’s a different story.”
