Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds’ humble attitude shone through when chatting with Wrexham’s players in the changing room, according to former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster

Ryan Reynolds has been praised for his down to earth nature when mixing with Wrexham’s players in the dressing room.

The Hollywood star, who has a reported net worth of £270million, bought the Welsh club with fellow actor Rob McElhenney in February 2021. The pair have since taken the Red Dragons to back-to-back promotions with the help of manager Phil Parkinson and are currently third in League One.

Reynolds is often known to check in on the team on his visits to North Wales. Despite his fame and fortune, several Wrexham players have noted his humble attitude.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster is the latest to lift the lid on his true personality after playing a starring role in the club’s National League title win in 2023. The ex-England international described Reynolds as a “nice guy” who tries to avoid the limelight as much as possible.

“He’s almost shy in a way, where he doesn’t really like all the crowds, and he doesn’t like all the attention,” Foster said during an appearance on the Breaking Beard podcast.

“He would come into the changing rooms after some of the games when he was there. I don’t care who you are, if you walk into a changing room with 30 blokes in there it’s a bit daunting.

“People are looking at you and they’re always just watching you. You could see he was a little bit on the back foot and a little bit shy about it but he was such a nice guy.”

Foster revealed he was not earning big money during his time at Wrexham, despite his Premier League pedigree with teams like West Brom and Watford. He also admitted his motivation for coming out of retirement was initially more to do with furthering his media career until he recognised the importance of the club’s title battle with Notts County.

Foster said: “It (the pay) was nothing – it was bonuses. If we got promoted, I would get a bonus, the same as the other lads were getting for getting promoted. But because I only played for eight games, I would get it pro rata. It was probably a few grand.

Wrexham AFC is the arguably the fastest-growing club in the world at the moment thanks to a certain Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The Dragons have achieved two consecutive promotions and are cheered on by crowds from not only North Wales but also from all over the globe, thanks to the success of the Disney+ documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

“At first, I did it because it fed into everything I was doing like the podcast and the YouTube channel. But then very quickly, after the first couple of games, you got to see how serious it was for them, how much of a big deal it was and how much it meant to everybody, as well as how good the lads were.”

He added: “You very quickly get drawn in. When you’re in a changing room of really good people and honest, hard working people, it’s the best place to be.”
