Rylan Clark and Rob Rinder appeared on This Morning to promote their new show, Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour, which sees them tour around Italy
TM: Rylan held back by production after homophobic abuse
Rylan Clark revealed a passerby yelled out homophobic remarks while he was filming Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour.
The This Morning presenter and Rob Rinder joined forces to travel across Italy over three episodes to follow the same route that Lord Byron did in the 18th century. On their Italian journey, the pair visited cities like Venice and Rome, and Rylan even took an unexpected detour in Florence
On Thursday morning, Rylan and Rob appeared on the This Morning sofa to discuss their incredible experience. A clip from the programme showed Rob and Rylan, who was rocking a gorgeous waist-length wig, dancing on a boat while they sailed around Venice.
Host Cat Deeley mentioned how they kept in the derogatory comments yelled out by a random passerby. She said: “You did keep it the bit where someone shouted derogatory remarks but then there were 90-year-old nonnas standing up and applauding you.” The House of Serenissima, a drag collective based in Venice, joined in on the duo’s shenanigans.
“For the first time, they said, ‘We’re going out in public!'” However, Rylan almost got into a fight when someone shouted a homophobic comment at them. “A guy shouted out something really homophobic and derogatory. A young guy. I was held back by production. Stepney Green nearly came out of me in seven-foot heels. I would’ve been in court but I’ve got the best in the land,” he added, pointing at Rob.
The hit three-part series is set to continue on Sunday and has been winning hearts across social media. Fans have been quick to express their love for the show, with one gushing: “I loved it. It’s interesting and educational. Funny and sad. You two are the nicest of people. Your honesty when you both share your experiences and feelings is so emotional. Can’t wait for the next episode.”
At one point during their trip, Rob and Rylan ended up in Florence enjoying a wild night out at a club. Rather than sticking with the day’s itinerary of art and architecture, he explored the local nightlife and ended up in a steamy encounter. According to OK!, Rylan said of the experience: “At the end of the Florence episode, I’m getting off with a French rugby player and Rob is dancing on the bar!”
Rylan opened up further about the memorable night out, saying: “That night was never supposed to happen. We went to the one gay bar in Venice and Rob at first said, ‘I just don’t know how to talk to people.’ Within three minutes, he looks at this guy and goes, ‘You look like Michelangelo,’ and that just sets the night off. The way it ended was just beautiful.”
