If you’ve suffered the misfortune of having your bag stolen while travelling, you’ll know that sinking feeling the moment you realise it’s vanished. Falling victim to theft while on a city break or a holiday is especially distressing if it’s your purse, passport, or mobile that’s been snatched, creating a complicated and nerve-wracking ordeal.

Still, having something stolen is always a horrible experience no matter where you find yourself. In fact, according to British Transport Police, a mobile phone is stolen every 44 minutes on the UK rail network alone. That’s why TikToker Synnøve Årdal has come to the rescue, sharing advice through her latest video post on how to carry your handbag securely whilst travelling – and apparently, it’s not only safe but chic too.

Her video arrived with a caption: “This might be stupid but I always do this if I walk around in a sketchy area. Does everyone do it? Like I think it’s so smart”.

It must be highlighted that this method is only for double-strapped bags.

In her tutorial clip, Årdal reveals: “This is the safest way to not get your bag stolen on holiday,” before asking, “You know you normally carry your bag like that?”, whilst displaying a standard over-the-shoulder carrying technique.

She recommended, “Instead, do this”, showing how to separate the straps, wear one diagonally across the torso and then wrap the other over the shoulder, thereby strengthening its protection.

She notes that whilst cross body bags are usually worn this way, this clever trick allows you to enjoy your cherished designer bags without the anxiety.

She boldly proclaimed: “No-one’s gonna steal that. They can’t!”, crediting the security to the bag being completely wrapped around her torso.

She also noted: “Nobody’s gonna take that and run away with you, it’s like stuck to you”.

In the comments section, users praised the ingenious trick. One impressed woman wrote: “It actually looks really good, so clever!” to which Synnve responded: “Yeah it looks good. You kind of get a little belt that makes your waist look smaller too”.

Another person joined in with acclaim, stating: “That was so smooth”.

However, not everyone was persuaded, as one sceptic highlighted: “Why does nobody seem to realise that bag thieves can cut straps?”, whilst another joked they “Just needed a Chanel now”.

Someone else quipped: “Laughs in plus size”, and yet another joked: “Yeah my muffin top won’t allow this”.
