The move comes as part of wider plans already announced by banking giant Santander, which also include the permanent closure 95 branches
Santander is set to cut opening times at 36 bank branches from the end of this month. The majority of these branches are currently open five days a week, from 9.30am to 3pm.
Some of are also open on Saturday mornings from 9.30am until 12.30pm. But from June 30, most of the affected branches will only be open three days a week.
Some branches will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 9.30am until 3pm, while others will welcome customers Monday, Wednesday and Friday, also from 9.30am until 3pm.
One Santander branch, located in Caerphilly, will only open two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9.30am to 3pm. The move comes as part of wider plans already announced by Santander, which also include the permanent closure 95 branches.
The bank said at the time of the announcement, which was published in March this year, that the changes would result in 750 jobs being cut. Santander had 444 branches at the start of this year.
If your local branch is closing, you can visit a Santander community banker, who visit local community venues for a set period of time.
There are also banking hubs, which are shared spaces on the high street where customers can deposit and withdraw cash and perform other everyday banking tasks.
Santander customers can also visit their nearest Post Office to pay in and withdraw cash, check their balance, and deposit cheques. Santander said the closures are down to more people using online banking.
A spokesperson for Santander UK, said: “As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future.
“Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside Work Cafés, counter-free branches and reduced hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.
“As a business, we must move with customers and balance our investment across all the places where we interact with customers, to deliver the very best for them now and in the future.
“Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers.
“However, we believe that the introduction of our new Community Bankers and the exciting plans we have for our remaining network of 349 branches and Work Cafés, alongside the rapid and innovative improvements to our award-winning mobile banking app, will provide the right balance of digital banking and human interaction when required.”
