Hips Don’t Like singer Shakira recently released her album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran and shared how therapeutic writing it was after her break up from Gerard Pique

Shakira has released her twelfth album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, and many of the songs are about her split from Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué.

Her new album, which title’s translates to Women No Longer Cry, was cathartic for the 47-year-old singer. Though she does seem happy with her new love, actor Lucien Laviscount, who she met on the set of her music video for her song Puntería featuring Cardi B.

The singer seems to have made peace with her break up from Gerard, telling Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show that he was “dragging” her down and now she feels “free.” She recently opened up even more about the break up in a digital cover for Marie Claire.

“I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s been hard,” she told Marie Claire magazine about the break-up from her partner of 12 years and the father of her two sons, aged 11 and nine.

She continued: “Each one of the 16 songs describes a moment in time when I was coping with or elaborating on intense emotion. I was in flight or fight mode.”

Shakira says her mission with her twelfth album was to “empower others to find their own strength” through the music, having found her own. “I always thought I was a weak and fragile person; that I wouldn’t survive certain situations,” she explains.

“Then suddenly life gave me all of those situations at the same time and I did wonder if I was going to survive at all. But I did. And now there are less things I fear,” she added.

To celebrate her new album, the star announced she’ll be embarking on a world tour later this year. Shakira made the surprise announcement when she made a surprise appearance during Argentinan DJ Bizarrap’s set during the first weekend of Coachella.

As she performed with the DJ, the screen behind her read: “Shakira, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.” She then told those in the crowd: “Finally, we are going on tour. Starting here, this November in this city, can’t wait.”
