The horror incident took place in Paranaiba, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul – footage shows the bull bearing down on the presenter as he continues to narrate
Shocking video captures the moment a rodeo presenter was trampled by a bull after failing to get out of its way.
The horror incident took place in Paranaiba, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, on Wednesday, December 11.
In the clip the bull can be seen entering the rodeo arena with a contestant riding it and trying to stay on as it attempts to throw him off its back. The rodeo commentator can be heard describing the feat as the beast moves towards him while still trying to throw the rider off.
He fails to move out of the way and the bull barrels into him, knocking him to the floor. It is not clear from the footage why the presenter fails to move to safety.
Other people quickly arrive to distract the bull, giving the presenter time to get back onto his feet and flee to safety. Not to be put off, the presenter, named as Pascoal Marques de Souza, 53, shrugged off his injuries and continued narrating the final hours of rodeo competition, which was taking place for the First Cowboys Meeting party.
Speaking to local media, Pascoal said that despite the scare he had not suffered any serious wounds from the encounter. The organisers of the event offered to take him to the hospital, but he refused. Pascoal said he only felt swelling in his leg and had no need for medical attention.
He said: “It was just a scare. I was calm, got up quickly and continued working.” Pascoal, who has more than 30 years of rodeo experience, said he had never been “run over” by a bull in his career. He laughed it off and added: “It’s no reason for me to stop. I like rodeo and we’ll keep going.”
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old bull riding champion was reportedly left clinging to life after a horrific accident at a rodeo last month.
Walker ‘Hollywood’ Smith, the Junior Bull Riding Champion of the Year 2022, was critically injured when a rampaging bull trampled on his chest on November 15 during an event in South Florida. He was airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
