An inspiring millionaire has jumped on the ‘reseller’ trend and almost cleared a supermarket shelf to try and make a hefty profit – but shoppers aren’t too happy about it
An inspiring millionaire has riled shoppers after almost clearing a supermarket shelf as part of his side hustle.
Sam, who has raked up an impressive 95,000 followers on TikTok, is one of many young Brits trying to make quick cash by reselling. The young man records his shopping trips to different UK retailers where he will purchase items in bulk – in the hope he can sell them online for more money using the Amazon FBA.
The online service allows business users to send products to its fulfilment centres where they list the item, take care of storage, packing and shipping. Amazon FBA has been scrutinised in the past for creating ‘inflated’ prices that has put shoppers off. It’s worth noting that any side hustle like this that earns you more than £1,000 in a single tax year requires you to register as self-employed with HMRC and complete a self-assessment tax return. Plus, you’ll probably spark a bit of outrage.
In a recent video, user Sam’s Journey spotted a shelf full of Sistema lunch boxes, retailing at 88p per tub. “Oh my god these are 88p [but] they sell for £7 on Amazon – they sell over 100 times a month,” he said. “Mate, we’re going to get a trolley and take the lot… We’ll leave a few of them but I’ll take a f***ing 100 at least.”
Sam ended up purchasing 81 units and went back to the store the next day where he picked up more lunchboxes. He claims he has made around £1,000 profit and took to the comments section to declare: “I’ve sold them all…” Amazon FBA charges £25 (excluding VAT) per month plus selling fees and pays out every fortnight based on proceeds from 14 days worth of orders.
Many supermarkets have restrictions when it comes to buying multiple packs of the same item, especially if there are national shortages. Some bulk items like cans of pop will have come with a ‘do not re-sell’ label printed on them.

While Sam seemed pretty chuffed with his money-making scheme, the comments section had a different opinion. “What’s sad is I tried to get these for the kids in my additional special needs class [but] couldn’t cos there was someone loading a trolley with them in Tesco,” one person fumed.
Another quipped: “Thanks for telling me where I can buy it cheaper.” A third asked: “Why would people buy for that price when they could go to Tesco themselves?” While a fourth branded him a “B*** end.”
However, others applauded the man’s hustle, arguing he is working ‘smarter not harder’. “Good luck to you, I hope you make lots of money.” Another agreed, commenting: “Admire what you’re doing mate! Should’ve taken all the units.” A third added: “Good lad, he’s out there trying to earn some money, how can anyone knock him?”
