Shoppers at The Range have been left flabbergasted after spying a variety of festive goodies on offer at a time, while many just aren’t ready to put the BBQ away

It comes around earlier every single year, but is August too soon to be thinking about Christmas? Some shoppers certainly think so, with a summertime festive display leaving The Range customers in a tizzy.

The home, garden, and leisure retailer has caused quite a stir after unveiling its new Christmas collection, complete with all manner of sleigh bells, snow globes and cuddly Christmas puddings.

The cheerful gold and red displays couldn’t look merrier, at a time when many customers are still whacking out the BBQ and showing off their holiday tans.

Getting into the Christmas spirit while many of us are still slathering on the suncream, The Range has teased its festive offerings via Facebook, in a series of merry posts.

In one post showing off their cosy Christmas candles, the retail giant announced: “They’re here… and yes, it’s still summer. Our Christmas candles have officially landed. Because it’s never too early for a little festive magic.”

Another pun-filled post read: “Not to sleigh the surprise… but since you asked for MORE, here’s a little festive teaser. Too early? Snow way! Our full Christmas collection is coming soon – stay tuned!”

Naturally, these announcements have split shoppers right down the middle, with an age-old divide. As is the case every year, there are those who can’t wait to snuggle up in front of It’s A Wonderful Life, while others simply aren’t anywhere near ready to swap their ice pops for a Quality Street box.

One fed-up customer pleaded, “27°C hot yesterday. It’s not b***** Christmas either! As much as I love it, give us a break.”

Another agreed: “It would be even better if you waited until November 1. My 5-year-old keeps asking how long until Christmas, as she is seeing stuff everywhere in shops. Far too early.”

A third quipped: “I’m starting to think the person who decided to launch Christmas in August also thought the calendar was just a suggestion.”

However, for every naysayer in the comment section, there was an excitable Christmas elf ready to do battle with any Grinches or Scrooges.

Others have argued that getting the decorations out early is only practical for those on a budget

One passionate Yuletide fan declared: “People enjoy seeing Christmas stuff, and for some that’s the only enjoyment they have, so maybe bore off if you don’t like it, keep scrolling. One simple comment, ‘Oh, it’s too early,’ isn’t gonna stop shops from filling up with Christmas stuff, and most people like it as it brings ’em joy in an already depressing world.”

Another concurred: “For all the moaners, on a positive note, so many people can’t afford to buy and stock up for Christmas in one hit. This way, they can buy in smaller, affordable amounts up to the occasion.”

A third simply cheered: “Can’t wait to get that tree out of the attic!”

What do we think, Mirror readers? Is this too early, or are you already fancying turning up the Christmas tunes?
